New Connection
Hey all,
Just have a few questions for you all.
I was connected on 14/4, and according to MySky, DLM started on the 16/4, 4 days in and not much has happened really, does DLM take the entire 10 days to adjust the speed? I know the router has re-synched once in the early hours, but I have a current WAN time of 53:44.
From the stats below what speed can I expect, i was thinking around the 6-7mb mark
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4519 kbps 789 kbps
Line Attenuation 44.5 dB 25.4 dB
Noise Margin 8.9 dB 6.0 dB
Also Sky have kindly sent me two routers, one being the D-Link, which is currently plugged in, and a Sagemcon 2304N, once DLM has finished which router would you advise to use?

Re: New Connection
DLM does sometimes finish before the 10 days are completed, but it can also take the full 10 days. it really depends on your line.
If you check here:
SkyUser - Potential ADSL2 Line Speed Checker & Calculator
You will see that you should be expecting between 7Mb to 8Mb according to your attenuation. This is based upon a good line and good connection.
I've just posted this comment elsewhere on this forum today, there is no harm in me copying it here for your benefit too:
What I don't know is anything about the wiring in your home.
To get the best from your ADSL2+ connection, you should try the following, if you haven't already done so:
* Use the master socket, without too much extension wiring. Plug into the test socket to see if this is an issue
* it may be beneficial to remove the bell wire if you have an extension installed
* use the short grey ADSL lead that is supplied with the Sky router, not an extended lead
* if you need to access your router via cable, further from the master telephone socket, make use of either a long Ethernet cable of a pair of HomePlugs. Piggybacking an old router can help with this by providing 3 LAN ports at the 2nd location. The correct way would be to purchase a LAN Switch, but often members have an old router lying around
* consider fitting a filtered faceplate in the long term. The electronics used in these are superior to most micro-filters
Many members have been having issues with the new Sagem 2304n, but it does offer improved WiFi strength, compared to the D-Link. Speed wise there isn't a big difference as the D-Link is WiFi g (56kbps) and the Sagem 2304n isn't actually WiFi n, but does go to 72mbps.
If you were to compare the connection figures between the two, you may find that one syncs slightly higher. This is down to chipsets inside the routers.
Some people have also had issues with things such as network printers, which have been resolved in a Firmware update that is automatically downloaded by the router in due course.

Thanks Scubbie appreciate it, was just expecting some movement in my speed by now, just a case of sitting tight I suppose.

Re: New Connection
Your upstream noise margin is very low. One thing that can cause this is a dodgy filter. If you are using the Sky filters, I would nip out and buy a good quality filter if I were you. It is always worth trying your router in the Test socket using only the cable supplied by Sky. This will show the full potential of your line.

Re: New Connection
I have changed the filter and plugged in Sagemcon router
and got the following stats:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4970 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 44.5db 24.1db
Noise Margin 7.2db 11.5db

Re: New Connection
Are these stats from your test socket?

Re: New Connection
Can you post your stats from the test socket using the filter. If you have got any phones on extensions they should be dead when you take your stats from the test socket.

Stats from test socket:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream

Re: New Connection
Your line is either in poor state or has a fault on it. You can dial 17070 and conduct a quiet line test. If you hear any noise report it to sky.
