Broadband/Phone line problem
ok, i signed up here hoping someone would be able to shed some light on this weird situation.
So about 2 weeks ago i phoned sky and asked if i could get better broadband speeds they said yeah but i had to plug my broadband into the test socket which is downstairs when i normally need it upstairs in my room connected to my pc but my vga cable for my pc was at a friends so i left the broadband and phone in the test socket for about 2 weeks the only problem was the upstairs phone didn't work but that was alright.
Now i have my vga cable back and moved the broadband back upstairs into my room, but now my phone only works when its plugged into the test socket, i've switched everything back to how it was before i moved everything around, and got no luck, the weird part is, i can plug the faceplate in and that will let the broadband run upstairs but both of my phones upstairs and downstairs are now not working. If i plug the phones into the same place where my broadband is working (into the phone socket on the microfilter) the phone still doesn't work. Both phones are not broke as they work when plugged directly into the test socket.
Thanks in advanced

Re: Broadband/Phone line problem
The faceplate on the downstairs telephone socket has the telephone wiring for your telephone upstairs.
The practise of asking you to use the test socket should be purely to eliminate any issues with your telephone wiring within the home. In the long term you should always use the master socket for your ADSL Broadband.
As for you PC connecting to the router, you may wish to investigate purchasing a pair of HomePlugs if you aren't using WiFi. This will allow you to connect to the router at a reasonable speed.
In the mean time, could you post your router stats so that people can comment as to whether your speed is Ok from the test socket and master socket, in turn?
