Awful speeds
Hi everyone; have been with Sky Broadband for about 10 days now and the speed tonight has dropped to the lowest it has ever been - 0.8 meg.
The line is capable of 5.9 meg.
Previously with AOL; i was getting 4.4 meg easily.
This is very bad and is a poor speed.
Is there anything i can do to improve this? I have reset the router; tried a different microfilter; but still the same.
I do notice that the speed reduces in the evening; to about 1.5 meg; which isnt very good either; but tonight it is awful.
I need faster speed than this and i should be getting it.
Any help would be appreciated; thank you.

There's plenty of noise margin left there
phone them up and ask them to set the line

Re: Awful speeds
The issue is purely to do with the package that you are on.
If you were to call Sky support, then they would just have to run the script, but it wouldn't solve anything.
Read this thread:
http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-b...ect-users.html
Then look to find out who can actually provide you with a sensible connection where you live and change to them.
Sky BB Connect is just a terrible package. Until Sky actually invest money in the bandwidth, then you'll always have this problem.
For £17 per month, you can get many much better packages.

I suggest that you look on SamKnows for a provider wit LLU in your exchange.

Thanks for the replies.
I have had a look at the list for a provider with LLU at the exchange, but there is none.

Re: Awful speeds
In that case, look around for who can offer you the type of package that you desire.
It's worse than looking for a car. You know that there are many different varieties. Most require petrol, some diesel and a few others gas or electric. some will go the distance, others look nice, but have no substance inside them.
Many people think that just because it comes down the same telephone line it will all be the same. I can assure you it isn't. Product ranges vary, prices can be hugely different for the same terms, even how a company deals with those who go over the monthly limits varies hugely.
This is why I suggest looking for something that matches your requirement and then looking at recent consumer reports through the various on-line forums.

Re: Awful speeds
Thank you for your reply.
I do that, i always have a look for reviews.
The only problem with review sites is that usually, most of them all reflect badly because no one really submits good reviews, it is always the negative ones, etc... so you have to take that into consideration too, just to confuse things more.
