Kindle and Sky -Sagen Router
Hi - have just bought a Kindle and cannot get it to connect with router wifi.
Have looked at router and I now appear as MER network type - is this what is causing problem and if so how do I deal with it?
Or does anyone have any other siggestions about the Kindle and wifi?

Re: Kindle and Sky -Sagen Router
I've seen these problems reported elsewhere and the cure has always been the WiFi password entry. Most suggest you change the default Sky WiFi password (which you should do as it's easy to break) and enter a password that you definitely know and can enter on the Kindle exactly as you entered on the Sky router.

Re: Kindle and Sky -Sagen Router
I do not seem to be able to access the default password to change it and would mean changing it on other equipment. The Kindle support information say the network should be 802 but router shows MER and I assume that means incompatible so how do I deal with that?

Re: Kindle and Sky -Sagen Router
MER is nothing to do with the WiFi, it's to do with the connection between router and Sky

Re: Kindle and Sky -Sagen Router
well in that case, why can I not connect wirelessly with the Kindle?

Re: Kindle and Sky -Sagen Router
Not sure why, but sometimes with sky routers and random devices it just wont connect unless you change SSID (Name of wireless) and passphrase.
Normally changing SSID and changing WPA PSK pass will do this.
Sometimes you may have to change security from WPAPSK to WEP. (Slightly less improved security but still is fine)

Re: Kindle and Sky -Sagen Router
No,
You should be able to change the security on all Sky routers to WEP.

Re: Kindle and Sky -Sagen Router
Check again there is a bug in the firmware that stops you being able to change it on the new sagem.
As for the WEP comment about being less secure 16.7million possible combinations is basically no security at all can be hacked in 5 mins by a 10 year old with access to google.Links Router Stats Useful Tutorials Speed Test Check For Test Socket Repetitive Electrical Impulse Noise

Re: Kindle and Sky -Sagen Router
Well the information i gave on WEP security being less secure than WPA PSK is correct.
WEP is secure which is why it is still in use, but like i stated it isnt AS secure as WPA PSK.
And WPA PSK will offer better features too.
