Sky cap review policy
Hi all
Been on Sky for a few years now and generally always had a connection around 7mb.
However during the bad weather a couple of weeks ago I had some speed problems and a noisy line, so phoned Sky to see if there was any issues their end, they recommended unplugging and reconnecting phones etc which didn't help but after a few hours things got a bit better so I just put it down to the weather !
However since then I've only been able to get a 6mb connection and checking MySky I can see that there has been a line test on the 13.12.10 and I've been capped at 6mb.
So do they do regular line tests and I could get my speed up again or am I going to have to call them and ask them to do it manually ?
Thanks
Jim

Re: Sky cap review policy
Sky's Dynamic Line Management (DLM) monitors lines and if it spots instability, it will cap at a suitable bit rate to keep the line stable. The apparent cap is likely down to the noisy line. Get your stats:

Re: Sky cap review policy
Hi, thanks for the info, will post my stats when I get home.
Whilst looking at ways to improve speed which of these 2 options are likely to give the best result
1. Current set up is master socket has a ADSLNation splitter faceplate, router is plugged into this but using a 10m cable. PC etc is connected to router via ehthernet cables (albeit a long one that runs down the outside of the house!)
2. Alternative would be to put the router next to the master socket and use the standard short cable. However PC etc would then need to use wireless to connect
Suppose best answer is to try both and see how I get on but just trying to get a view on which would be better in theory
Thanks

Re: Sky cap review policy
The second option would be best, made even better by running a longer ethernet cable if you can't get a great wireless signal.
You're currently capped at 6144/800 adsl2plus by DLM. It's about right for your attenuation, but if you can fire up the stats with the extension cable removed, we'll check for improvement.
Edit: Also, what router do you have?
