Internet Connection (Lack Of) - Problem

I have a Netgear router and three filtered connections into the telephone socket, one for a cordless phone, one for the Sky box and one for the router.

At the moment, the internet light is virtually never on until we take the phone handset off the cradle and click the button to get a dial tone - more often than not, soon after this, the amber light flashes and then we get a connection which can stay open for anything between 5 - 20 minutes when the connection drops out and we have to start the whole process again.

Like the earlier thread from the Altrincham user, we do get a lot of interference on the phone line.

I have tried removing all the connections except the router and then used each of the filters in turn but the situation does not improve.

Does this sound like a router or a phone line problem ?

      All ideas gratefully received !!

It looks like a high resistance fault on your phone line. There is a bad joint somewhere which is bridged when the phone is used allowing the broadband to connect. Call your phone provider and tell them you have noise on your line. When the engineer comes tell him about what happens with the phone and the broadband. If he is worth his salt it should give him a good idea what is wrong.
