Re: Lost speed with move to SVBN
I've installed inssider its not a channel problem no one is using the one i am.
its not only affecting the laptop but also the ps3.
The router is about 4 years old i also tried to connect via ethernet last night and had major problems connecting that way too. i think some ethernet ports on the router are abit flaky so i think its time for it to replaced.
The speed issue only happend after sky's line testing before that i was getting a good 13.5 mb download it was connecting at the exchange at 16mb.
today ive rebooted the router and its connecting at 13.27mb. with speeds via ethernet about 11mb or so.
I'll check the test socket
cheers

Re: Lost speed with move to SVBN
basically alcatel no longer build the model of Dslam that sky use so to stop the future problem of getting parts sky decided to go onto ISAMs which handle both phone and broadband and so are patched into the excahange in a very different way. Some users see a line attenuuation increase as the system bounces the lines by doing logrithmic pings unlike a dslam. Hopefully the speed variance wil get sorted soon as alot of it is to do with the fact that you cant manually enter the configured speeds of an Isam, They are pre programmed profiles. Over 50% of us are now on Isams and so Sky are constantly improving the way the SVBN operates.
PS. Max delay is ping times,it is the packet sampling of the line, higher slower but less prone to errors, lower better bu builds error easier, you have to trade training speed(download sync speed) for a low ping time and vice versa, unfortunately cant getsomething for nothing the max delay of the line can only bbe changed by SKY

Re: Lost speed with move to SVBN
My phone line was changed to SVBN last night. I did not know that this was happening since I have been on holiday for a few weeks and the letter came while I was away.
Anyway I have lost 1/3 of my download speed.
I had quite a slow connection anyway only 1.5mb due to the distance from the exchange (approx 6.5km) and I am now connecting at 1mb. I know that this is not a great deal but when you have such a slow connection it does make a lot of difference.
I have been with Sky for 3 years now and apart from times when my line has gone through DLM (reduced speeds due to this) my line has been stable and I have been happy.
I called up sky and was told that there is nothing that they can do they have tried everything. I have been with sky talk for 4 months now and while I have not had any problems with the service I am not happy right now.
I wish I could go back to BT. I might ask as I have seen the SVBM web page and it clearly states "improvements" to your service, well this is not an improvement!

Unfortunately it does not look like there is any room for improvement. You appear to be on G.DMT which is normally best for long lines like yours. I expect they have tried your line on ADSL2+, but you could phone them and ask them to try it. You never know, you might see an improvement.

Re: Lost speed with move to SVBN
So what eaxctly has happended? Im sorry I dont understand. My Line Attenuation is exactly the same, which I believed was the main reason for speeds on your phone line. Why on BT is it faster than sky?
