Wireless ok, wired doesn't allow viewing of webpages
Hello all,
Only recently signed up to sky, everything is mainly alright except one thing, and I hope you will be able to help me...
Everything connected correctly, I can browse the web on my ipod touch wirelessly fine, but on my desktop PC - I can't, i.e. though the wired connection.
Desktop CAN ping google.com, CAN connect to MSN
Desktop CAN'T view websites (IE, safari, firefox, chrome), working off-line is NOT selected,
I've tried manually assigning IP addresses, I've turned off all firewalls, I've prodded every setting to do with tcp/ip I can find but all to no avail
Has anyone got any ideas at all? This is driving me mad,
Thanks all,
Amy

Is the LAN adaptor actually active (ie not disabled)? Have you activated AUTO for DHCP on the LAN connection? Are you using a Patch and not a Crossover LAN cable?

Try downloading and running -
Download WinSockFix 1.1.0.13 - WinSockFix - A free Winsock/Tcp repair utility - Softpedia

Re: Wireless ok, wired doesn't allow viewing of webpages
If you mean, is the network card working correctly then, yes, there is no error dispalyed in device manager against the network card,
Or are you refering to something else?
I don't think so... how do I do that?Only recently upgraded to Vista, not quite got to grips to where all the settings are
Regular network cable from the router to the PC - the one that came with it,
As the machine CAN access the internet I think the router and set up is ok, it's just http that's broken
Thanks

Re: Wireless ok, wired doesn't allow viewing of webpages
On your desktop open your browser and in the address bar type:
192.168.0.1
then press Enter key. What happens? You should get a pop-up asking for User name and Password (these are: admin / sky and if you enter them you should get the router Set Up page).
If you can do this the problem isn't the cable or the LAN card!

Re: Wireless ok, wired doesn't allow viewing of webpages
That suggests the Desktop has a problem with either the cable (but it should be OK as it's the original) or the LAN Card.
If you can try RUN from the Start Menu then type CMD and when the box appears type ipconfig /all (gap between g /) as this should tell you all your settings for the LAN and WiFi. Paste the results here.

Re: Wireless ok, wired doesn't allow viewing of webpages
Have you tried the Winsock fix?
If this does not help start in Safe Mode with Networking, try to go on line. If you can, it indicates that your security software is blocking you.
