Wireless network that only 2 computers can see?
Hi there,
Forgive me if this has already been posted - or just point me in the right direction.
I want to set up a wireless network between my desktop PC and my netbook, both running XP, and I can't get my head around it. I went through the xp wireless network wizard but that wanted me to plug a flash drive into the router itself (which has no usb port to do so) and I can't work out the manual way.
Also I share the wireless connection with a few other people and don't want them to be able to access either computer.
Can anyone help?
I had a dig around but I can't find a post giving me the answer I'm after.
Thanks,
Rich

Re: Wireless network that only 2 computers can see?
Firstly you need a few things
1. a Wireless router (sky sent you one)
2. wireless dongles/cards
you need the router set up for WPA PSK (pre shared key) that way yes anyone can see your network but only the person (in theory) with that key should be able to connect to it

Re: Wireless network that only 2 computers can see?
Sorry, I wasn't very awake last night, I should have been more clear. There is already a wireless network shared between 6 computers, I want to be able to share files between 2 of the computers without the others being able to view those files.
Cheers.

Re: Wireless network that only 2 computers can see?
then you will need to set up a secured shared folder, with user permissions set that only the required people can access those folders its in folder properties / security i think (well on my networked machine it is)

Placing your PCs in a different workgroup from the other PCs should stop them connecting and sharing your files. Most use the default MS name, change this to something unique. You would need to keep your workgroup name secret and for additional security, password protect your shared files.
