Re: (Unofficial) FAQ - Sky Connect Users
On the issue of Sky Connect - well this is the result of me trying to get my appalling traffic shaped evening speed issue resolved - see email below.
Thank you for your email. I am sorry that your speeds in the evening are not as good as they are outside of the time period of 5pm to midnight.
I asked our technical team to speak to you to discuss the downloading that you do to see if there was any other reason why your speed would be slow during the peak time.
I would be unable to lift the restrictions on the Connect package to allow your broadband speed to be increased between 5pm and midnight as this is part of our traffic management policy. I am sorry that this is not the response that you are looking for. I have checked to see if I could get you changed over to Sky Broadband Base, Everyday or Unlimited but this is not available in your exchange.
I hope this helps with your enquiry.
err well no it doesn't help actually Sky!

Re: (Unofficial) FAQ - Sky Connect Users
Ok, I'm on the Sky Connect package and, like so many others, am seriously ****** with the Traffic Management con. I've requested my MAC code and am now on the hunt for a new ISP.
But I wanted to check some things before I went ahead only to receive the same crap service from someone else.
My local exchange is not LLU enabled, so if I change to PlusNET or IDNET etc will I just get similar problems or will that fix the issue (eventhough the exchange doesn't support LLU).
Main problem I have, is I pay £5pcm for Sky Broadband and don't really want to pay £20pcm for a service which isn't significantly better. I think I only pay £5 as I threatened to leave last year (Not because of the "Soon to be unbundled" stuff people were talking about in earlier posts).
Any help would be greatly appreciated
...before I start selfharming

Re: (Unofficial) FAQ - Sky Connect Users
Hi VDubber
I used to be on Sky Connect, God what an experience!! It's amazing what the Sky reps got away with when i signed up for Connect...they even went as far as to suggest the connection had nothing to do with BT. I got burned, burned badly, luckily the worst times were toward the end of my year's contract.
I signed with IDNET immediately. No traffic shaping, no blocked ports. It doesn't matter what time of day i log on to IDNET but the speed is brilliant. I have honestly only had one time when the web crawled to a halt, and it didn't actually, it was my Windows browser that had crashed. There's a 30GB limit on my package which, when i first signed with them, was great for me, but things change and i now find myself with 2 kids and a student all sharing the same connection, so i need more bandwidth. I'm in a non LLU area, in the sticks actually, so will have to decide whether i move up to a dearer package with IDNET or move ISP altogether.
To be honest i don't want to leave my ISP and it would hurt me to do so.
Dave

Re: (Unofficial) FAQ - Sky Connect Users
Well, having just moved home and having to leave Sky Unlimited due to a more rural location. After seeing the terrible Connect reviews on non llu exchanges i had to do some research on providers, Idnet, zen adsl24 were all choices (zen idnet may still be in future) but i went for NewNet. No issues, ordered last week and up and running today, 1 day earlier than they said. Very happy, so far, would recommend. Getting about 4meg and should settle at about 6 after a while, also ordered a new adsl nation face plate to clear any issues.
Thanks to all the helpful posts on here too!!

Re: (Unofficial) FAQ - Sky Connect Users
Hello,
Another unhappy Sky Connect Broadband customer here......... I have been posting on other forums but thought I would share my issues with SKY Connect here too..
Been having some similar slow connection speeds over the last few weeks and when running Speedtest.net, I average around 1.5 /1.6mb/s at peak times and 2.5 mb/s at late evening / early hours,
I have completed the test's / advice listed in page 1 and 2 and below are my results,
Now i should be grateful that i have over 1 mb/s compared to some other members, :-)
Below is the best speed I have seen in a long time!
Download Speed - 1648 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed - 0 Kbps 7150 Kbps
Download speedachieved during the test was - 1648 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :6080 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 5000 Kbps
############Taken from the Router config page - (Netgear DG834) (Dark Grey Netgear)
Modem
ADSL Firmware Version 7.03.01.66
Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed 6080 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps
VPI 0
VCI 38
#############
So... i guess the question is, can anything else be done to speed up my broadband?
Can Sky reset my profile?
The line can take upto around 7mb/s, (of which i was able to connect at a week or so ago and got speednet results.)
Any additional ideas ??
Cheers
Rick

Got an update --
The reason my speeds are so slow is due to the following......
If you download over 1.3GB in a 24 hour period you get throttled at peak times for the next 24 hour period.
If you download/use over 10GB in 1 week, you get throttled "big time" for the following week at peak times.
This is due to you having a limit of 40GB a month, SKY throttle the connection as it costs them $$$ as the lines are rented from BT and if they go over they pay the bill.
Also, SKY state they do this to help you keep under 40GB so you dont lose service.
My question to the forum is..
Does it state in the T&C's (as i can not see it) SKY will throttle your connection on a day by day basis if you go over these limits??
So... my PS3 update and game update @ 500mb, plus a bit of BBC iplayer has pushed me over again today.......
My tip.... Dont go for CONNECT !
A few thread online state they have contacted WATCHDOG, but not heard that they have picked up the case.
I have 6 months left and really have lost my cool with SKY now, each day for the last 9 weeks I have a connection of 0.45KBPS at peak times, which basically stops me from doing anything.

Re: (Unofficial) FAQ - Sky Connect Users
Request your MAC code and leave, Sky will not hold you to contract due to their service being un-useable.
