Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
Hi,
I am suffering from having Sky broadband. The case has been so bad that I've started looking at alternative broadband ISP.
I would probably get rid of SKY talk and SKY TV on the way as it was in a way subsiding me to stay on Sky Max.
* Broadband package: Sky MAX
* Normal Speed: 3MB
* Current throttled speed: 789k
* Average usage per day: Middle, I work from home and need a good connection
* What does this throttling affect? Browsing / Gaming / Work.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
You're on Max which isn't and never has been noticeably throttled. This thread is discussing Sky Connect (see the thread title).
If your throughput is significantly lower than your sync then it is probably down to a problem with the connection to the router or something on your system/LAN using or blocking bandwidth i.e. nothing to do with Sky.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
Oddly, my pings and downloads were ok today (Friday). Will see how it goes tomorrow. Anyone else notice an improvement today (Friday) or just me?
Edit: Saturday Afternoon @ 16:00 - Back to 250kb/s downloads, not tried WoW yet.Last edited by Deady; 10-01-09 at 05:05 PM.

deady dazzler
You are both right Sky are at last winning a battle with bt the problem when you join sky
and have a10 day cooling period when connection sync `s speeds adjusted and we should leave everything alone no resetting no router adjustments or bt will have a field day when they do their changes if you read my post on this thread you will see what I mean sky after numerous attempts to get bt to re-sync my line have now done wonders bt have said my line can only hold to a maximum of 1500k but that happened when I signed up for sky talk
which is strange because when first moved to sky BB line held 3500k to bt engineers came out on separate visits telling bt line was good for 4.2Mbs the funny thing is sky rent line from bt who have told me line was always 1500k meaning 235k 500k and if lucky 1Mb? when joined sky was getting 3500k explained to bt unless it has just changed anyway your line is not with us I said on sky connect then you should ring sky. then quote bt isp policy
so line can not change but then bt `s RAMBo must have stepped in to show it could go down as far as they put it ran bt speedtester
DSL D 2500k U 448k
IP Profile for line during test 350k
actual throughput 135k
sky had it re-profiled
bt speedtester
DSL 2560k D 448k U
IP Profile for line 2000k
Actual IP Throghput 1863
yet bt still showed maximum line will hold 1500k
now sky have again re-profile told bt if the line was capped to remove cap
bt speedtester
DSL 4224k D 448k U
IP Profile for line 3500k
Actual IP Throughput 3264k
1825 on 09/01/09
bt still have me down as having a 1500k maximum line.
So sky won a battle but the war which bt have started with all ISP`s in their exchanges
prolongs yes bt have put prices up for their new equipment which in turn falls back to all Service Providers. Anyone with a problem do not give up and remember all ISP`s that are in bt exchanges have the same problem British Telecommunication (let just say bt it)
bt must know there is a site called say no to 0870 maybe not

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
Hi robertco
But it is not just happening to sky seems the more technology bt are amassing puts
pressure on all ISP`s in bt exchanges one of the things with sky is that if they are
moving into your exchange in near future prices are different first is £5.00 the other
is £17.00 also depends on what equipment you are using from sky TV, Talk,
sky is not throttling your line it is a combination of sky adjusting the line and bt which
are throttling the line because of the adjustments which sky have had to make as I
said it is not only happening to sky it`s every ISP using bt exchanges, Only thing is
to ring or send an email hope this is of some assistance

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
Broadband package: Sky Connect
Normal Speed: Around 6mb
Current throttled speed: 648kbps
Average usage per day: Around average, I would think
What does this throttling affect? Browsing, and the odd show on 4od and iplayer.
Not really acceptable to be only getting 10% of what I usually do (and even less than 10% of what I should!), as far as I can see I've not broken any Ts & Cs and am well within my monthly limit. Oh well, we can only hope they sort themselves out soon.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
* Broadband package: Sky Connect
* Normal Speed: 7mb (what you would normally expect)
* Current throttled speed: 592Kbps
* Average usage per day: A lot. Online gaming (Playstation 3) Browsing and a few downloads here nd there.
* What does this throttling affect? Everytning expect general browsing. Although youtube will NOT work.
----------------------------
So is there any solution to this problem? Cus this is extremely annoying and unacceptable.
