Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
We had NewNet at work for 12 months, before we switched to Be* - Newnet were absolutely 100% reliable.
The only reason I terminated with them was:
They sent us (imho) a snotty email, stating that we were likely to be charged for going over our usage (once in 12 months) and seems as we had already prepaid for a year, I felt was out of order. My main argument was that we were allowed x amount usage per month, and seems as we hadn't even used a quarter of x times 12 in all the time that we had had their connection, they wouldn't budge. Their loss not mine though.~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
I am not here to promote NewNet but to criticise the poor service offered by Sky Connect (after 5-6pm each night).
However, I never (never, ever) had the same problems that I am experiencing now with Sky connect for over 2 years when with NewNet.
My service with NewNet offers evidence that Sky ARE throttling after 5pm-6pm because with the same PC set up and same connections I had no problem whatsoever.
The Sky Hokey Cokey Policy (pull this plug out, plug this plug in, shake it all about) approach is total tosh and kidology. There is a massive problem at the Sky/Bt end.Last edited by NewsreadeR; 28-01-09 at 07:40 PM. Reason: removed immediately preceeding quote

Have to say, it looked as though you were not very happy with NewNet in your post.
Anyway, let's get on with sorting out this Connect problem which is dire. After Sky announcing so many millions profit today surely they can address this situation and arrive at a suitable result for all concerned.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
# Broadband package: Sky Connect
# Normal Speed: 3mb
# Current throttled speed: 0.5mb
# Average usage per day: About 15-20 Gig per month
# What does this throttling affect? Everything
Very frustrating......

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
Hi all
I would say that having Nearly 25,000 threads nearly 190,000 post, Thousands viewing everyday and over 32,000 members and growing hourly. A good deal of them have Sky of some sort and the rest potential Customers. This site should be recognised as an important asset. Where else could any ISP get so much information to solve so many Questions. Come on Sky where has your Business head gone.
NewsreadeR Yes I know SkyUser ain't a priority to Sky, and also that we have no divine right to demand or receive answers, but customers who pay for a service, deserve some answers or an explanation at the very least.
* Current throttled speed: 0.09 - 0.3mb
* Average usage per day: A lot (Three Laptops does NOT help)
* What does this throttling affect?: Pretty much everything

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
What is annoying me more about it is that there is a huge packet loss during these times and not just the lowering of speed. Certainly cant watch anything live during these times, just lags and hangs. Streaming is very bad. Gaming is undoable.

Crazy. It's the same to varying servers. Usenets, hotmail, discogs, etc., etc. Doesnt matter destination either, uk, france, US, australia whatever. Latency remains good through-out all of it though. Sync speed to exchange doesnt change during peak time, but connection does.
Upload rate remains unchanged.
When phoned, technical help say it's normal for peak time as must be lot of sky users on local exchange
Been like this for around 2 months id say. First month i used connection a lot; went over usage id imagine (maybe by 10 gig or so), so didnt say anything about as thought they might have put me on high usage pipe or something. Still the same this month though and havent used it much.
# Broadband package: Sky Connect
# Normal Speed: 2800 kbts
# Current throttled speed: 200 kbts (but actual down speed whilst downloading something is 0-15 kbts)
# Average usage per day: about 20 gig/month average apart from last month
# What does this throttling affect? anything that isnt just browsing, and that's slow if graphics on page

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
Aright guys, the time has come im afraid....in ending my bradband service with Sky.
I know this probably the wrong board to post this request but has anybody got any good ideas for a new ISP.
Im a pretty heavy user, im not interested in call packages....just speedy broadband for a reasonable price.
Im thinking TalkTalk, or O2...ive looked at both and they both seem pretty good.
Any ideas, im just so sick of being treated so poorly by a company that should do much better.
