Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
Jeeze if anybody was playing world of warcraft they'd notice those speed drops let alone anything more demanding like a FPS
I know Sky don't support gaming but surely this is impacting on general web browsing let alone anything else.I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
Broadband package: Sky Connect
Normal Speed: 1.8 mb
Current throttled speed: 0.2/0.3mbps
Average usage per day: World of Warcraft
Getting constantly d/ced from the game, massive lag, web pages taking forever to load just between 5 and 11 pm and it is driving me nuts

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
* Broadband package: Sky Connect
* Normal Speed: 7mb (what you would normally expect)
* Current throttled speed: 5mb (Usually 1-2mb - strangely quicker this evening than the past few evenings)
* Average usage per day: Browsing, Online Gaming (So...little really, no big downloading.)
* What does this throttling affect? Gaming! I get huge amounts of packet loss and lag in online games such as TF2 and WoW. It only starts ~5pm - it is fine before 5 and after 12, which leads me to believe it is the throttling system causing it.
For what its worth, I used to be on Virgin Media ADSL and back then, one day I started getting the very same packet loss and lag during games. Oddly it only happened on *some* servers. I eventually tracked down the issue to Virgin media incorrectly having certain gaming ports down as being file sharing ports. Games I played on servers that used port 27015 were fine and *not* throttled, but others that used 27020 *were* throttled and were unplayable. I very much suspect the same is happening now on Sky - WoW for me uses port 3724 (or something) and maybe ports like this are being labelled as P2P and being throttled. I don't pretend to know how Sky or BT examine traffic to judge if it is throttle worthy or not, but I do know for certain that on Virgin Media - 27015 was unthrottled while 27020 was throttled - so maybe judging on ports is common practice?

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
Well, this thread makes my mind up about not signing up for Sky Connect (which would be all I could get)

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
Broadband package: Sky Connect
Normal Speed: 3meg
Current throttled speed: 300-500kbps
Medicore browsing and an odd divx film and used to online gaming (see below)
* What does this throttling affect? Downloading, usenet, gaming
Using usenet is a 0-1kbp/s during, cant even sign in to playstation network (ps3) at all until either after 11ish or daytime its ridiculous
Whats the general consensus on this suck it and see or move on, as it seems Sky are passing the buck.
