Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

I've absolutely had it with horrid Sky Connect and their freaking slowdowns. My mate up the road about 500 yards away has BT and it's blisteringly fast, so I'm thinking about changing ISPs to Vispa or AAISP. Only thing is, we don't have a router (other than the Sky router.) Can we keep it, or will Sky be demanding it back when we cancel?

If you are out of the 12 month contract, it's yours but you will have to flash it with the Netgear software to get it to work on another ISPs service.

Even if you are inside the 12 month I doubt they will chase you for it.

TalkTalk have recently enabled your exchange, they might be worth thinking about and they supply routers so you would have no worries there.

Yeah cheers, it's a fair suggestion but I've had Talktalk before back in the day (I think, or it might have been one of my friends) and I/they weren't overly impressed. Plus, they have a fairly bad rep...I've put in an order for Vispa and if it doesn't pan out, (hey, 1 month contract!) I'll give Talktalk a shout.

i have been with sky broadband since it started and found their connections pretty could until now.
Cannot D/L anything at quick speed also cannot open any other programs while D/L, i think my speed was capped from 1st Aug 2009, also D/L usage from 40 gig to 10 gig thats why i think my speed so low, after wait until Sept for my 10gig useage

Philco, you are capped very heavily. Ring Sky and thell them you have improved your wiring and would like you line set to it's maximum speed.

You may want to do this in the test socket if you have one.

Ringing after 10:30pm is a good time to get CST.

Carphone Warehouse had a bad reputation at the start, mainly because they offered free broadband without having the infrastructure to support the tremendous demand it got. I think they were even giving away laptops at the start.. They now own TalkTalk, Tiscali, AOLUK and Opal and have a much better reputation.

If Vispa have unbundled your exchange then go for them, although small they have an excellent reputation. If they are reselling BT ADSLmax, be careful as it is the same as Connect, though it might not be throttled so much. If it is just a 1 month contract you should be fine

Hi are you having the problems only between 4pm till Midnight if so yes. You can run Bt tests that will give some idea what your speeds are day and night
