Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
I got it this morning too. I was timing it but switched off the downloading tab it at 28%
When I got through and restarted it I forgot to start timing again, having a very senior day
It did peak out at over 890KB/s, which is pretty good for my connection.
It is a good chance for those that at getting very high readings from speedtest.net to prove their speed, even if they don't want the OS. MS is one of the few servers that will max out a connection.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
I'm new on here so hello to you all
I joined in Sky 10/08/08 and have had this problem since day one. I originally signed up for Sky Max 16mb as every website I went to said my postcode is ready for sky 16mb, but when I got the paperwork through I was automatically put on sky connect with a cap which I was very very un happy about!!
I instantly called the support line and was told the line could only handle "connect" so I would have to do with the discount down to £5. I don't want a discount I want a fast line with NO capping.
Bang on 5pm each night the cap is put on and makes the internet a lot slower than say at 4.30but usable.
During the time i've been subscribed I've called up about 5 times and each time they say there is nothing they can do
Today at 5pm the speed was 273kb down 309kb up.
I've just finished on the phone to one of the better CS staff (very nice sounding lady) and again she said there is nothing she can do.
When the line isn’t being capped the download speeds are just fine, an average of 7mb down and 400kb up
At the moment the capping is very very bad
2 Questions:
1) Is there anything sky can do to remove this cap as I didn't sign up for Connect
2) If the LLU is has a green tick next to it in the exchangechecker why the hell can't I get Sky Max??
I started to play a video from Youtube at 8pm it's a 7.30minute music file and it still hasn't finished playing that's 55minutes to play 6mins and 9s
What is going on?
I don't know on my usage I've only just installed a monitor but I quite possible might have gone over the 40GB monthly allowance as I download lot's of Legal music for my part time job
Please help
Cheers Chukkel

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
1 - Sky cannot remove this cap, it is a capacity issue on the package and people are going over the limit (like you may have) causing everyone to suffer, unless Sky buy more capacity or kicj the heavy users then nothing will change, in fact it will get worse as more people join.
2 - If your exchange is LLU ready then they just don't have any spare slots at the moment, my advixe would be to check on their website for availability every day, if someone leaves and a place becomes available jump on the phone and get it.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
Oki dokie, can you explain why some web pages are worse than others?
Do BT cap anything that is streaming? ie Youtube or Webcasts?
The video I was playing, still hasn't finished I know it's only 10mb in size and it's been playing now for 1hr 20mins..

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
If your exchange is Stoke on Trent, then it is Sky enabled, one of the first in fact. This means that it is fully subscribed and you are waiting on a place becoming vacant. It would do no harm to remind Sky that you have been waiting to be moved to an LLU connection for several months and are becoming very annoyed that you have not been moved. Also that you are far from satisfied with the Connect package, with its very restrictive speeds during peak hours. Don't mention anything about using it as part of your job as this is likely to have a negative effect. Use the KANA Form and repeat your request weekly until you get the proper response.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
I can only suspect that some pages have more content to download than others.
BT/Sky don't cap anything in particular, capacity issues means that everything is slowed, things that are constantly downloading like streams etc will be constantly slowed.
Sky will traffic shape individuals if they go over their limit, this is worked out as about 1.4gb per day, if you exceed this you may find you get hit twice, once via capacity issues and then again by the throttling.
