I'ld make sure that incoming connetions are kept to a lower number, perhaps 10, with low bandwidth useage.
It's very easy to stuff your upload rate, which has a bad effect on download rates when you do.
Saying all of that though, I (wrongly) changed max connections from 100 to 1000 , that is what screwed my router up. 100 should be fine, but still depends on bandwidth as well as connections.

My bandwidth is around 4.5mbps
I reduced the number of connections on torrents to 30 from 60 and that appears to be working ok. however I'm still havning the problem with p2p live streaming. there is no way you can amend the amoutn of connections some of these programs use e.g. sopcast.
