Very Slow Download/Connection
i posted something simialr in the wireless/adapter section but there hasnt been much response. i got my router stats which i will put at the end of the post. i have got a simialr problem another guy had with newsgroups
my laptop connects and downloads flawlessly n e where in the house at 9mb speeds. the pc upstairs in my room connects at 1.0mbps and downloads at 50k a second if im lucky where as the laptop in the same place as the pc downloads at 9mb. i have the most up to date drivers etc etc and i have tried tcp optimizer but it cut off the connection.
i was about a week ago getting download speeds of 9mb on the PC but all of a sudden it dropped and its the same with another pc in another room. i have tried movin the pc nearer to my door to get a stronger signal but nothing. if i take the pc downstairs and use an ethernet connection the speeds are flawless and constant. even wen i disconnect the ethernet and use wireless its flawless as its rite by the router but as soonas i take it back upstairs its back to nothing. ive got a netgear rangemax network card coming in the post on saturday thinking it would make a difference but thinking about it if i got top speeds a week ago maybe its not the network card. any help much appreciated.

Re: Very Slow Download/Connection
I'm not really sure what you want to know
As you have demonstrated, your wireless performance is rubbish and your wired performance is excellent. That's a very common scenario.
Wireless is inherently a poor way to connect to a high speed internet service - wired will always be the better choice. Why is it poorer? Because it's susceptible to interference and this is what is happening in your case.
If you have to use wireless then take a look at the wireless forum where you'll find a number of tips. In summary:
- keep the router off the floor and away from other electrical/metal items
- try experimenting with different wireless channels and small changes to the router/aerial position
- don't use things like video senders, baby monitors or dect phones (i.e. other wireless devices) anywhere near the router or PC/laptop.
If you can't stand the thought of going wired then consider using something like powerline adaptors using the electrical wiring in your home. Probably a better investment than a rangemax network card which is unlikely to help at all.
BTW your stats are fine but have nothing to do with your wireless connection.
