OMG this is crazy.....
So I phone up Sky to get the 3 in 1 package thingy and I have specific questions about my broadband such as:
1) Can I request interleaving to be switched off?
2) Can I downgrade to MID if MAX is not greater than 8Mbits/Sec
The lad on the pone had no idea about interleaving and said that I would not be able to downgrade to mid from max but would ask his supervisor.
Basicaly she came on and said that yes I could switch off interleaving and yes I could downgrade if speeds under 8Mbit.... Now she said all of this without sounding too convincing and alarm bells started to ring in my head... This was further confirmed when I was put back through to the original person and him saying that usualy people can not downgrade there connection and also asking me if I had been a SKY customer before (Which I have not been).
Anyway the long story short is I backed out of commiting myself to them as apart from very bad background noise, the phone cutting in and out (I asssume them chatting behind my back) and basicaly me feeling as though I was being lied to by the supervisor and by the lad on the phone kinda not knowing anything about anything I just got spooked out.
Such bad service, especialy for someone wanting to commit to a contract and have never been with them before.
I never even asked about...................
1) Can they put the dish on the back of the house and wire it to the front (as the shop downstairs would complain about me putting a dish up at the front as they evil little buggers).
2) Where is my £10 online discount taken off on the form as it does not do it.
3)QUOTE "Save up to £48 paying by direct debit", where is this discount and also does it have to be auto direct debit or can mail direct debit count?
4) £50 M&S coupons for referal by friend....... How do I claim this for my gran who uses sky and shops at M&S?
TBH this is all a bad start and is putting me off as they seem clueless.
Also BT being the sneaky buggers they are after giving me my mac code upgraded me to 8Mbit and also somehow (god knows how) have stopped traffic shaping my P2P Torrent usage during the day. AMAZING!!!
SO I am dissalussioned atm wether I am doing the right thing switching from BT to SKY when they can not even do a simple line test when I know they have an unlooping kit at the exchange and also conflict in wether I can downgrade from MAX to MID.
I'm so frustrated atm as I know that on the phone one was making anything up that pleased me and the other was simply clueless saying he did not know but had doubts too about his supervisors sayings.
Suppose I will bang my head agaionst a brick wall for longer and see what happens.

Re: OMG WTF this is carzy.....
Oops, sorry for topic title... feel free to amend i to simply "this is mad" (or something), I have a tendancy to over-react with Acronyms.

Re: OMG this is crazy.....
Hiya,
I nearly posted last night after joining, but after seeing there was no introduction or newbie area I kinda shyed away until I had something to say.
I do not know my line attenuation, however I can throw a rock and hit my exchange (on a good day as it is two streets across away... but still possible).
My major gripe was the lad I talked to seemed to know nothing and his supervisor seemed to just say what they wanted me to hear and not fully understanding what my questions was.
It put me in an awkward situation as I honestly thought that one knew nothing and was just doing his job and new at it, whilst the other longer term one just wanted commision and was very sad to hear me say I would need to think about it more due to there responses kinda spooking me out in there randomness and unconvincing voices.
I think I am going to put this down to a bad time to phone and see if when I try again tommorow I get someone who kis a little happier and sounds as if they know what they are talking about a bit more.
I'm still fairly sure moving to SKY is the best option for me, I just need to make sure that unlike BT that they do have atleast some people I can talk sense with (unfortunately not shown yet and hence the doubts).

Re: OMG this is crazy.....
if you did join sky, why not start off on the mid package and see how it goes, it's 8meg so you would have at least the same as you have now and if all is fine then you should have no problem upgrading to max

Re: OMG this is crazy.....
It's the old addage of "you get what you pay for" I'm afraid.
You sound like you want some specialist settings on your ADSL and for that reason Sky may not be the ISP for you.
Yes they talk about reducing MAX Delays if you want decent pings, but that may come with a sacrafice on speed.
However, if all you want is a decent speed broadband (and hope it works without needing any help) then in my opinion you can't beat it.
Best £5 a month I've spent moving over from BT at £26.99, it was a no brainer really.
I've started out on mid as I knew you can move up but not down in the 1st year, however at the moment I see no need to change. Not been warned about going over my 40gb yet !!
OK, router has rubbish firmware and resets most days, but just set up mosseywells ap and it takes care of that for you.
Your choice at the end of the day though.Last edited by NewsreadeR; 17-10-07 at 02:12 PM. Reason: changed adjective used

You will have to be careful about the £50 offer. The recommendation has to come from a user, I don't think you can set up then say so and so recommended me, give them 50 quid.
