Is it possible to control the amount of bandwidth given to our upstairs computer? Our kids seem to be running faster than ours, or is it a 50/50 share or is it our slower computer? anyone. We are all on the sky netgear set up with a '16MB connection' - never been higher than 9MB the kids just seem to be downloading much quicker than us, and with simular file sizes?
Again, anyone please...NO SATELLITE SIGNAL RECEIVED - AGAIN...

You didn't say how the computers were connected.
When wired, the router will pretty much evenly share the connection between the users. When wireless, the better quality wireless connection will generally take more of the bandwidth.
The power/newness of the computer has little bearing provided they are set up properly. Run TCPOptimizer on every computer to ensure there are no bottlenecks.
I can't comment on your "only getting 9MB comment" as you've not given your router stats (attenuation and sync).
