Could someone interpret my stats?
Hi there, i keep getting connection dropouts
i spoke to sky and they said: "Having checked your account information, the issue you are experiencing is due to the speed of the data transfer being too high for your telephone line to support it.
We can resolve this for you by making adjustments to the speed at which data is transferred on your line."
Below are two sets of detailed stats - could anyone read them for me and tell me if what sky are saying is right or is it the quality of the bt line/socket. i have been using the test socket for both these results. the second stat posting was done on an ethernet connection, to which i still experienced dropouts.
thanks for your help!!

Re: Could someone interpret my stats?
The method of connection (i.e. wireless or ethernet) will make no difference to your router stats.
Of the two sets you posted the second set looks like you are already capped by Sky.
Both sets show errors but the first set has severe errors and the second low errors. The differences between the two can't be explained by Sky capping you. You must have made changes to your connection e.g. stopped using an extension, different microfilter, removed a splitter etc or maybe a temporary BT line error cleared.
If you're still getting "dropouts" then assuming the second set is your current connection, line errors are unlikely to be the reason. Can you describe more clearly the details of your dropouts? e.g. how often, any pattern, etc.Last edited by Saturday; 06-10-07 at 11:14 AM.

Re: Could someone interpret my stats?
thanks for your reply saturday
my dropouts are very random, there is no pattern to them at all. i run windows vista and at the bottom right corner of my destop, next to the clock is the 2 monitor icon that has a little world pictured with it to denote that i am connected to the internet. i leave my computer and internet connection on all day but when i come back to my computer sometimes the icon has changed to just the 2 monitors and no world therefore no internet connection. i have run the problem solver on vista but no luck there and i end up rebooting the router every time this happens.
incidently, why would sky say in their email "based on your account details" i need to downgrade my package yet you are telling me i am already capped??!!
also my router is next to a radiator, and fridge and cordless phone station, would this affect the quaility signal or dropouts?

Re: Could someone interpret my stats?
Sky have several standard phrases, one of which you've heard. They're often used as catch-alls and it doesn't mean that the person using them necessarily understands what is going on with your connection
I'm not telling you that you are capped, only that there are signs in your stats that you are.
There are several possible reasons for disconnections - you may be experiencing one or more. When you lose internet connection, can you still log into the router/LAN?
As I said earlier, line error diconnections don't seem likely but they are possible. When they happen they tend to cause a loss of internet connection but not loss of connection to the router. Rebooting fixes the problem temporarily.
There is a UPnP "bug" which can cause frequent disconnections. These are often very regular but can be random. Wireless connections are particularly affected but ethernet can be affected too. A fix is to turn off UPnP in the router. I'd say this is a strong candidate for at least some of your disconnections.
An overheating router can cause all sorts of problems. The Sky router must be placed on the supplied feet and should not feel more than quite warm to the touch.
Interference from other devices will primarily affect wireless connections but if severe can disrupt wired connections too.
Power saving features in the OS can cause problems when network cards are powered down. Ensure that no network devices are covered by Windows' power saving features.
