List of niggly issues with Sky
A few questions I have that shouldn't take too long to answer, I hope :-D
1) We get disconnections when it rains, we told Sky and they said that "We are sorting it" but nothing's changed from 2/3 months ago when I rang them. What causes this?
2) Sky capped us to 860kbps dl and 350kbps upload, but I think our line could quite happily handle 1.5mbps. I told them this, but they say that they can't do anything until our line is 're-provided'. I'm thinking this is something to do with the account errors they made when we ordered Sky BB about 9 months ago. Any ideas?
3) We were told by a nice person in the provisions department that if we degraded to Mid then we could experience an increase in speed and previous account errors could be wiped clean. Will it improve anything realistically?
Cheers guys.

Re: List of niggly issues with Sky
And in response to the first question - disconnections when it rains? Does your telephone service arrive at you house via an overhead cable? If it does, I wonder if there is some water ingress at the junction box on the telegraph poll. Sky would have all kinds of problems trying to convince BT to take a look at something like that.
Of course, if phone calls were becoming quiet and crackly whenever it rains heavily, you might well find a BT engineer coming out to have a look.

Re: List of niggly issues with Sky
1. I don't think Sky can do anything about this, it is a BT problem, try ring them and tell them you are hearing noises on your phone line, could they test it. Don't mention Sky Broadband or they will probably do nothing.
2. There could be some reason for this but it is likely to be that your line is so bad it will not take any more. Are you plugged into your Master socket or an extension? If it is an extension, is it hard wired? How far are you from the exchange?
3. If you don't download more than 40 Gb a month, ask them to downgrade you to Mid, as your connection is too slow for Max. If things improve you can always upgrade again. I doubt if what you have been told is true though, changing to Mid should not require your line to be re-provisioned. It is hard to see how changing an account, unless they have put you on Base by mistake, could make any difference to your connection.
As has been requested your detailed stats may show something. Take them first from where you are plugged in now and then from the Test socket. This will show if your internal wiring is faulty.
