Cut off by sky using a Netgear DG834GT
Hi all
Connected to Sky BB last month, after leaving BT. BB went off on Friday and contacted Sky helpdesk. We were told there was a problem communicating with router. but they were sorting it. Rang back on Sunday to get told that account had been cut off for internet abuse????? Spoke to that dept today they told me that my IP was been worked remotely to send out email blog/spam???. I was told thet only way that Sky would reinstate is if I format my PC.
Can anyone help as this seems a little drastic.

Re: Cut off by sky using a Netgear DG834GT
It sounds like your PC has been subject to a hack or a virus and maybe even a Open Relay server.
First thing I would do is to check for a virus.
Try:
1) Antivirus Software - Eliminate Spyware and Adware with NOD32 Antivirus from ESET
2) ewido - anti-spyware and anti-malware solutions
Both are free trials and should find anything on your PC. Ask if you need any further help.~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

How would they know whether you had formatted your PC or not. Seems a strange request to me. I suppose you could tell them you have formatted your PC (but don't) and see what they say to that. Where you using Sky's default firmware in the router i.e you hadn't tampered with the router at all?

Running totally standard, I asked them the question what if I did the format and something else came up, they told me that I would have to take it to somewhere like pc world/ comet for a report to be done before they would reinstate.
Worst thing is I have no internet access now thanks to them turning it off.

If you can download the trials at work or a neighbours, if you have anything suspect you should find out within a couple of hours.
Once removed (if present) then you can tell Sky that you have rectified the problem and they should put you back on asap.~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

Many thanks for the replies, all sorted. It was the Loveletter virus causing the problems, with 5 trojan backdoor.win32 files, got rid with Kaspersky anti virus. Never using AVG again as it totally failed to find
