Changing from sky ER110 hub need new router recommendation

Hi everyone hope you can help, i currently have the sky ER110 router and the wifi is awful i live in a house which is very new so the walls are very thin and the wifi speeds are ridiculous its always losing connection. After many test on our line and alot of stressful phone calls with sky no errors showed up at all on the line so i have come to the conclusion that i am going to use a 3rd party router is the TP-Link AC1900 (V1 Archer V900) a solid choice or is there something better?

I have extracted my sky username and password so im already to buy a new router and get set up would really appreciate it if you guys could recommend me a router with great coverage

      Thanks

bear in mind even though there are lots of all in ones not that many will work with sky fibre. take a look at http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-b...sky-fibre.html and go to the latest threads to get some ideas..

If it was me I would buy a cheap vdsl modem and a decent Asus router and run merlin on it so you get good wifi coverage from the asus.

no doubt others will have there own views but if you do get an all in one make sure it will support option 61 or else it won't work with sky fibre.

an all in one device is ok provided it supports option 61. I wouldn't buy the asus DSL ac68u. The modem has issues.

My previous suggestion would do away with the sky router. for example.

hg612 modem + Asus RT AC88U (no sky router required)

just do some investigation if you decide to go down the all in one route or a router only device with a seperate modem to ensue it will work.

The router you mentioned will still need a modem in front. You just need to establish if the router will provide option 61 support under the wan config.

Re: Changing from sky ER110 hub need new router recommendation

It seemed either a pain in the proverbial to change router (having to flash custom firmware on a brand new router) or expensive. So I opted to leave the sky router doing the net connection and added a ubiquiti access point to do the wireless. The advantage of this route is you are still compliant with the Sky T&Cs and should you ever leave for another provider you can still use the access point - a router you purchase for Sky may not be compatible, for example if you went FTTP.

I can't speak for others, but the ubiquiti is very easy to set up.
