I had near enough the same issue about 3 months ago although mine dropped by about 17mb, 39 to 22, after having to power the modem off for about 45 mins. I left it for 2 weeks thinking that DLM will adjust it back up, as we are always being told it works both ways, however it remained at the lower speed.
Phoned sky, they checked the line and found no fault so straightaway they arranged an engineer visit for the next day. He checked everything and reset DLM on my line and it has been synced at 39mb ever since.

Re: Lost 20mb from download speed

I must be one of the very lucky ones - I first had Sky Fibre in April 2012, then had Pro in June 2012 (I had it on the first day) and it started at 60/20. I believe vectoring was enabled on my cabinet/exchange and I suddenly started receiving 77/78mbit. If we have a powercut, we seem to get the full 79999/19999. Earlier in the year, our modem was showing 130 days of uptime at this speed.I think my mother in law shut the modem off accidentally and it dropped to 73/74. Powercut again a few days later and bam, the full 80/20.

Right now I've got 60 days uptime and it's about 74mbit. BT DSL checker says my best estimate is 68, so anything above 70 is pretty good I'd say.

In the case of the original post here it does indeed sound like something has been introduced somewhere to cause the sudden drop. Everything staying equal, it doesn't just drop on it's own.

There's no vectoring unless you are on on OpenReach test area.

What's happening is when there's a power cut that affects your road, your modem is locking in before anyone elses, I suspect your max attainable rate is quite a bit less than your 80mbps. When you reset on your own then the disturbers are already there, hence the lower rate.

One of ths reasons I'd like to see them relax the 6db threshold, most modems can hold on lower than that, especially with G.Inp active.

Not so - my max attainable has risen over the past 4 years.

Max attainable and sync rate at the moment are matched at 73000, but when there's a power cut (and the weather over the year makes a difference) it'll be closer to 80

That's what I meant, If you get a lock at 80 when there's a power cut then you'll be able to watch your max att. rate fall away as others come online.

Re: Lost 20mb from download speed

Poor weather resulted in a power cut or three today.

Max attainableis now 81204/22011, then running 79999/19999

      Woohoo.
