Replacing SR102 with another router (TP-Link or Asus)

      Hi All

I had Sky Fibre installed at the beginning of February and it has been working well. An open reach engineer actually visited to carry out the install, however he installed an OR faceplate only, with the SR102, so I don't have an OR modem like some others have.

I've read that users have been able to replace their modems with a third party one, and I'm interested in doing the same with the popular TP-Link one that many are using with DDWRT, but I notice a lot of people doing so have the OR modem as well.

I was just wondering if I could replace my SR102 provided by Sky directly without needing the OR modem? I would appreciate if anyone has done so could confirm that it works, I have already extracted my username and pass

      Cheers!

      You have a few options.

Certainly you can purchase a BTO Modem from somewhere such as eBay. There are a variety for sale on there. You can the use your own Cable router (i.e. without a built-in Modem).

Another choice would be to purchase a router with a built-in VDSL Modem. There are a few around now and the list is growing slowly.

The third option would be to configure your SR102 to pass all the traffic (using the DMZ Server setting) straight through to your own Cable router.

Instructions for each of these options are available on this forum.

If you want a 'one box' solution what you get depends on your budget. From the Thomson TG589vn v3 ADSL2+/VDSL Wireless-N Router w/ 3G Support (300Mbps) at about 60 to the Vigor 2860n at about 240. http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop...roductID=15297 Boxes that have been proved to connect direct to Sky Fibre can be found here - http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/askin...sky-fibre.html There may be others but they have not yet been added to the list.
