      Re: Packet loss

If the chart is typical the main loss seems to be between 4 and 10pm. Anything going on at that time that might interfere. I am thinking here mainly on central heating which may have thermostats or pumps causing bad interference.

It may be a good idea to run Routerstats Lite and see if there is a connection between the noise margin and the packet loss. Internet Software

      Packet loss

I'll see what I can do. He only had an electric radiator, no central heating. He's in student halls of residence.

      Re: Packet loss

Is it open to his friends? If it is I am thinking one or more of them may be hammering the connection with torrents soaking up all the bandwidth. Suggest that when his speed is at its lowest, he disable the wireless and try a test using ethernet. This will ensure no one outside his room is connected when the test is being done. I don't think it will cure the packet loss, but it may give some idea of why the speed is so low.

      Packet loss

Yes, he has 3 friends using it. But the BQM shown was only him and one other as the others were away for half term. He asked his friend to stop downloading and the slow speeds continued.
