I've seen some sites advertising sky & others as 'up to' 16mb for ADSL, yet we all know it's up to 24mb really.
Apparently there's some nonsensical law that dictates that ads can only claim a certain percentage of what's technically possible.

      Pantaloony.
This is because a lot of people were complaining to Ofcom and the ASA because the ads said "up to 20mb" or "up to 24mb" but many do not understand the limitations of ADSL and VDSL (FTTC). Basically a lot of people do not realise that the further that you are from the exchange for ADSL or the cabinet for VDSL/FTTC, the slower the connection. Also a lot of people are still using cheap telephone extension cable to connect their routers a telephone socket.

The changes affect all ISPs and the advertised figures must be achievable by at least 90% or 95% (I can't remember which).

As for the speeds we discuss on this forum, we aren't constrained by such advertising rules, so yes I do have an 80mb connection.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

I'd have no problem with that if the explanation was always clearly stated but it isn't.

Instead we get the term 'up to', which is plainly incorrect when coupled with a figure such as 16mb for ADSL.
Then there's the noob situation, where when looking online sees all this 16mb malarky but has been told by a friend that their isp gives them 22mb or whatever, so they don't look into it that closely & just go with that isp.

Also, what if by chance an isp happens to have an abnormally high percentage of customers that live far from their exchange or fibre cab?
Wouldn't they be unfairly punished by having to quote a lower 'up to' speed than other isp's.

      Still pantaloony in my book.

You and I understand the technical aspects of Broadband.

It is clearly aimed at those who do not know or do not wish to know the technicalities of the Internet.

Me again thought i would post back my wired and wireless speed ...i was quite shocked.
it must be the Sky Hub SR102

      Wired

      Wireless(right next to the router!)

As you can see from the wired i am getting close to what the advisor told me of 34.8 so i am happy with my speed just not my router?
      Im quite shocked.

      Any thoughts?
Whats with the Sky Hub SR102?Is it faulty?

Have you checked that your wifi drivers are full up to date? Have you tried changing the channel on the router? Although the auto setting works very well for some, others find it is better to set the channel manually. Try using Inssider, link below, to find the best channel in your area. You must realise that you are very unlikely to get the same speed over wireless as you do with ethernet, for that you are going to need a router and adapter capable of wireless AC.

I do have a wireless home phone next to my router I shall try turning that off to see if that improves anything.
I believe all my WiFi are up to date but I will take another look.
      Thanks for your help.

Also, make sure you use the Nameso/Structured Communications servers in London when running your speedtest as the others tend to give some dodgy results.
