      Speed checker estimate gone up

Last time I did a check with BT's speed estimate thing, it came back with 21.9-22.9meg. I just did one today which now shows 23-33meg. I quizzed them about it on line explaining that neither my snr or distance to the cabinet has changed, so wondered how it could now be showing me a much more favourable estimate (especially if I ended up with the top end). They said that my cabinet might have been 'upgraded'. Since I haven't heard of this before, I'm calling horse s*** on it, unless someone knows better?.

Would the previous check been for ADSL and the later one Fibre?

Just checked mine, it has gone up from 22mb to 30mb. Possibly they have improved something.

Re: Speed checker estimate gone up

While I was chatting to them, I asked what the minimum acceptable speed was for BT in their T&C. They skated around an answer. I mean with that estimate I could either be very happy (by my current standards) in achieving 33meg, or be totally ***** off if I got say 20meg. its a very broad estimate. Must be like an auctioneers 80-120 favourite

Re: Speed checker estimate gone up

Yes, Sky also give very wide estimates for their speed. I have seen 7-16mbps quoted, which is ridiculous. Its just to cover their backsides from the Ofcom regulations.

      My estimate was 11.2 - 18Mbps.
      I currently get 22Mbps.

So my speed could be almost halved one day & as long as it was stable & not dropping out, technically sky wouldn't be under any obligation to improve it?

I wonder if ofcom will ever take a look at isp's estimates...

What does it show in the Broadband details on your MySky page. That is what they will go by. Mine says testing began on 29/6/12, check back for the maximum speed speed supported. Nothing since, still its only 18 months ago.

      You have Sky Broadband Unlimited.

When you purchased Sky Broadband, we estimated that the maximum download speed for your line was 11.2Mbps - 18.0Mbps.

The actual Access Line Speed could be lower than this estimated speed range. If the speed is significantly lower please contact us.
      Your Connection Details

Testing on your broadband connection began on 26/06/2013 and will be completed within 10 days.

You may notice some variations in your broadband speed and this is normal. We are aiming to give you the best quality experience. Please leave your router on during this time.

Check back here to confirm the maximum speeds supported by your connection.

Mine has gone up too on the BT checker. Used to say 74Mb now says 79Mb-80Mb. I am getting full speed anyway even when the estimate said 74Mb.

      MySky says 74.4Mb-74.4Mb
