      First day on Fibre: Latency and Ping

      Hello Everyone!

      Just signed up on here after transferring from o2 to Sky Fibre yesterday.

      As soon as I connected the router to the master socket yesterday, I created a monitor for the connection. This is the graph for the last 24 hours:

      My Broadband Ping

      As you can see there is a spike in latency between 8pm and 11pm. Is this congestion?

      As it was only the first day, is this worth worrying about? I didn't seem to get this on my o2 connection.

      Should I contact sky support over this?

      The graph could be like that for a couple of reasons. The obvious is that the exchange is too busy, the other being that you have a new Fibre connection.

      If you care to let me know what exchange you are connected to I can double check for you about the potential backhaul issue.

      There is an on-line checker, but the data it refers to is severally out of date.

      As for trade secret, no. A number of people have access through Sky's Super User group to a private forum. It is there we can ask for this information.

      Once or twice an exchange not listed has been found to have an issue and other times there may be another issue. Both these reasons are why I ask for a copy of the Quality Monitor to be posted, which you have kindly done.

      The graph in the first post seems to have removed the data for the first day. So I'm posting the 2 graphs for the quality monitor so far:

      You could contact Sky if you wanted but you would get the same information that I provided you as the ultimate source is the same (Sky's network team).

      As mentioned in the PM in your instance there is a known backhaul issue and the work should be completed soon. If it isn't please feel free to let me know and I can check for you.

      I am aware that some exchanges have had their work delayed for various reasons. I don't have the details for the reasons (Sky won't say) but I can certainly chase it up.

      No problem, thanks for your help! I do hope that it's fixed, it's just that I would not like it to be like this for the next 12 months and I feel that it is probably easier to cancel within the first 8 days

      Based on past performance with other exchanges, it will be upgraded and things will get to an acceptable level.

      Unfortunately sometimes the fix hasn't been as prompt as people would like.
