      Software for monitoring connection stability

      Hi
I have just upgraded to Fibre and (came from a problem free SKY MAX) my son was playing Fifa with a known opponent earlier and reported lag spikes etc.
Running a speedtest gives approx 3x better down ( 8>25) , 10x better(1>10) up and 50% lower ping, not sure if thats great or even accurate as its still way slower than the 40 promised but hey ho.

I am seeing people posting graphs showing lag spikes etc and just wondered what is the software people are using for this?

      Many thanks

thinkbroadband :: Broadband Quality Monitor This is a direct link to the current graph. Are the lag spikes acceptable? You don't really notice anything wrong in general web browsing but then its no better than Sky MAX either.

That potentially looks like a backhaul issue. I have posted a question for it to be checked and will let you know in due course.

Thanks Scubbie. Not sure what backhaul means, is that a congestion issue?

Re: Software for monitoring connection stability

Sorry, yes I suspect that it is a congestion issue.

The backhaul is the trunk route from your exchange to Sky's servers. Essentially if this is the problem then it doesn't have sufficient capacity to handle the traffic of everyone in the area. Sky will need to increase the capacity if this is the case.

Re: Software for monitoring connection stability

I have had some feedback and apparently there is not an issue with the backhaul at your exchange.

      It will be something else.

Thanks Scubbie. Any ideas where the problem may be? I have already got a decent faceplate, etc. lessons
learnt in the early days of broadband, and cant say we had any problems with the MAX package. I am using some D-Link 500mg homeplugs, but not on the end of any extensions etc and cant find any issues with these on the net. I would like to make sure I have my end covered off before ringing Sky.

On the off-chance, do you have a games console of something set up in the DMZ settings?
