Sure there appear to be a few exchanges which are experiencing issues, but Sky ARE working to fix things, as demonstrated in this and a few other threads.

Financially if makes sense to gradually expand the backhaul as the demand for more bandwidth is made. Since it takes a few months to arrange the extra cabling and will often require getting someone on the ground to dig a hole and put the new cable in place, seeing that people are complaining within a month of the job completing is IMHO a good sign.

The number of times I have seen complaints in the past about Sky's competitors having oversubscribed networks in some areas, often for months and months, is quite a few.

When issues with the backhaul first hit the forums three years back, it was a result of the introduction of Anytime+ being introduced and Sky's major campaign to get people on Sky Broadband Unlimited. At the time many people were left with slow connections for 4 months. Things have IMHO improved.

I think Sky could be a bit more on the ball with exchange capacity problems. It shouldn't be hard for them to predict potential issues emerging, but it's sometimes weeks before they take notice and acknowledge. Until a few days ago the status page for congested exchanges was weeks out of date as well.

      Re: High pings after 8pm

The network team is dealing with it.

From what little I have learnt though, getting contractors into the exchanges could be an issue. Also Sky doesn't use one single supplier for the backhaul, so contracts will need to be negotiated or amended.

As for the information on the Sky website, I know that it is out of date. We have been asking for a new tool which is maintained more regularly to be made available. At the moment I still do not have any expected time scale for this, but we will continue to ask. In the mean time there are a group of people who can ask Sky directly what is happening in specific exchanges. To help us though, the Quality Monitor tool is a really useful guide. It can also show when it is not an exchange issue.

Hi Scubbie, thanks for taking the time to check. At least sky have acknowledged a problem. I guess I'll have to grin and bear it for a couple more weeks

      Re: High pings after 8pm

We've been suffering similar although our exchange is LVCHI, we came off Be to Sky Fibre at the end of Nov, all was fine then around new years it got to the point it where things just started choking, gaming and anything like that? no chance. I made a forum thread on the Sky Forums about it we're still trying to chase support we've only managed to get through to their phone support once and they told us to call back when the issue is happening when we try that the support lines are apparently closed?

We've been running our graphs from f8lure, we have about a week or twos worth of issues out of around double that, im hoping we can get in contact soon or get some sort of ETA on fix because really its pretty unbearable and unusable.

      Welcome to SkyUser DecoyBeacon,

Sorry no one has picked up your thread on the Sky forums. I tend to look here more often for new threads as there are plenty of good people there too. This forum keeps me busy as it is.

If you could post a copy of the graphs you have or the Quality Meter graph from the thinkbroadband site, I can certainly chase thins up for you.

      Re: High pings after 8pm

I pasted the following graphs from f8lure on the Sky Forums, i had to black out my IP off them, if you don't mind an PM i can just give you a link to the "historic" page of these graphs so you should be able to pull them when you like including current ones. For some reason last Fri is missing, it shows on individual larger graphs though if need be though.

      Re: High pings after 8pm

Thanks for the update Scubbie, glad to see my exchange on the list! I thought it was just be me as when I spoke with sky over phone yesterday I was told that they weren't aware of any problems on my exchange and got my doing all the usual troubleshooting stuff. Had to dig out my old sky router which is still connected since Sunday evening.

Where do you find this out from out of curiosity?

I tried that think broadband ping tester but I don't think its working. I will investigate more at the weekend, am guessing I need to tweak the router perhaps.

My connection is flopped again right now! Was fine all day up until about 20:30 - i can even watch a standard def iPlayer video as its buffering every 5 seconds. Very annoying! Hope its sorted soon.

      Re: High pings after 8pm

No problem with the update for you. I get the info from someone at Sky through a private forum. There is nothing untoward but at this time we are trying to improve the communications. Personally I believe that this information builds on the confidence of Sky's broadband as it show that they are continuing to improve the service.

The graph is all red now as your IP Address has changed. You will need to stop that one and start a new monitor with your new IP Address. If the connection is faulty though, this could explain things.

Normally this happens if you switch off the router. Can I ask that you don't do this. There is no reason and it actually causes more issues.

In my own case I initially reset the SR101 a few times as I was playing with it a lot as I had an issue. However The BTO Modem has never been reset. The router clocked up over 3,400 hours before I did reset it earlier this month though. Admitedly my LAN is run by the WNDR3800 which has been reset a few more times as and when required.

Hi Scubbie, thank you for the reply its much appreciated, i think the reply i intended to post has been held up in a moderation queue, if you wouldn't mind the PM i could just send you links to the graphs i have direct from the f8lure site and TBQM ones too.

We actually managed to have a Sky support staffer phone us today who told us our exchange was congested and should be sorted by the 25th and that it might overrun but should be ok as theyre usually quite good over it as well as a couple of other bits of info, im going to keep the graphs running for the time being though, hopefully when next week swings around things are clear sailing again.
