Yes, getting 4Mbps on uTorrent would mean your connection is maxed out at the 40Mbps speed, just mentioned to avoid any confusion as if you were getting 40Mbps on uTorrent you'd have a 400Mbps+ connection, which would be nice!

I think you may mean 40MBps would require a 400mbps+ connection

Re: ASUS RT-AC66U Router Installed - Sky Fibre Now 30% Slower

Over 3 weeks now since installing the ASUS RT-AC66U router which caused my Sky Fibre speed to drop by half, today it's running at 15.5 Mbps download, was 30. Would you recommend phoning Sky and going through their laborious and monotonous diagnostic protocol? Pre-Fibre, I phoned Sky more than I phoned my mum with the myriad of problems experienced. Big sigh!

      Thanks

Have you did as I suggested in post #5? Sky will not support non Sky routers.

Re: ASUS RT-AC66U Router Installed - Sky Fibre Now 30% Slower

What's the point though, as it's obvious the speed dropped immediately upon installing the ASUS router. I'm not avoiding changing it back, but it's just more dead time. Also if I do put the SR101 back, the Sky speed will only come back after about 7-14 days anyways from experience (disconnecting the modem or router in the past). And once it comes back up to 30Mbps, what have we learned or resolved on the ASUS?

I have about a week before the money back runs out on this router at Amazon, so I have to get a solution or send the thing back. I emailed the Merlin guy, not interested. I've also emailed ASUS, I await a response but they'll also probably tell me to sod off as I'm using the Merlin firmware.

I thought Sky could just crank up the speed but it seems they want another engineer to call out. Honestly I had about 5 or 6 different engineers call-out last year pre-fibre.

It will prove whether the problem is related to the Asus or not. If its not, then Sky should fix it. If it is, that's your problem. You can either return it or try different firmware, if that's available.

Re: ASUS RT-AC66U Router Installed - Sky Fibre Now 30% Slower

ASUS support have said to update using their latest firmware and then install the Merlin again. Which is effectively what I did from day one as the ASUS firmware hasn't been updated since. Guess the router has to go back.

      Thanks for helping.

I have a further Q RE the speed in the Sky admin panel. Is this the sync speed or actual DL speed? It's showing at 16.5 right now, SpeedTest.net shows 15.5.

Re: ASUS RT-AC66U Router Installed - Sky Fibre Now 30% Slower

The speed shown in the router stats is the sync speed. You will loose 10-15% of this when downloading due to overheads.

As I said earlier - any speed problems will be between your BTO modem and the cabinet/exchange - I bet if you put a Sky router back on the speed would be the same. The router does not make any difference.
