      Router replacement time

What with the amount of streaming and things that I am doing, I'm finding that while my trusty Cisco Aironet is doing the job, it is only 54G, bless it.

I currently have a TP-Link WR1043ND doing our routing job and it has been great. The wireless was always shocking on it, hence why I bought the Aironet in the first place, but it is now time for a replacement given that I have so many devices for streaming.

What router can I replace the TP-Link with that'll give superior wireless (that works) and one I can hopefully use directly connected to my BTOR Modem?

Ideally another DD-WRT capable model, but not essential. One that allows SSH straight into it would be nice. (Which I can do in DD-WRT)

I have found that the Apple AirPort (and Time Capsule) gives out a strong reliable wireless signal and is capable on handling the high speeds of pro. below is a speedtest done over wireless through 2 walls compared to a wired test in my sig. It only requires a modification to the config file to enable for it to work with Sky.

EDIT: also the new version is AC compatible

If you don't have 170 for the latest version the very capable previous model is available at a bargaintastic 69 for a refurbished unit:

Am I correct in saying that the new AE have received poor reviews?
Im which case, the above is a bargain if your not worried over wireless AC.
My router of choice would be RT-AC68U, but I have a free BT Home Hub 5, which is wireless AC, I cannot justify the expenditure to myself or the wife!

      Re: Router replacement time

hey my first post, i thinking buying the asus rt-ac68u and im in the process of upgrading from sky unlimited to sky unlimited fibre, i was wondering if you could help me to set it up gorebush,

i think their going to send the sr102 hub, if they do i do know how to extract the username and password. after reading on the forum ive come to conclusion that i don't need the hub to be a modem if im going to use fibre if i wants then i would need the hub has modem.

im also going to put adsl face plate on the bt openreach master socket

il be looking forward to your reply

      Re: Router replacement time

      Welcome to the forum essa.

Please do not use an ADSL faceplate if you can help it. The VDSL faceplate works better with the higher frequencies used with the Sky Fibre connection.

The rest appears to be fine.

I'm a little behind at the moment on some threads, but I am sure someone else may get there first.
