There's noway to prove that and I hope I am wrong but it goes to explain why they are reluctant to fix my issue and increase my pro speed but more then willing to downgrade me to the unlimited package

Whatever capacity issues Sky face, they have always to date increased things.

Sky are still improving the backhaul and i believe that they are still rolling out their kit to different telephone exchanges.

With the acquisition of O2's broadband customers last year, I think it is safe to say that they intend to continue to increase their footprint in the broadband market and that speeds and traffic volumes will continue to increase.

As for your issues, I still believe that there is a line issue which BTO has not or will not identify. What that issue is I don't know.

OK some more info from Sky. They admitted there was a fault on the line and asked BT to fix it. This still didn't fix the problem and have now scheduled the engineer to come out to check what fault if any exists.

They also agree if BT and their engineer estimate I can get a faster connection then I should be able to get it provided my line is supported. They can't explain why my speed has dropped over 10MB over a fortnight when I was connecting at a stable 60MB for a 6 months period.

The engineer as well as checking my line will also look to reset my configuration so that I re-sync as a new customer and then hopefully sync on the speed my line supports (i.e. 68.1)

I hope they send a broadband engineer with fibre experience. If they send a voice engineer it will probably be a waste of time.

This sounds very interesting I just switch from Sky to plusnet after major congestion issue at my exchange but what i experience before i switch was a drop in speed i was getting 72 to 74 meg cab is literally 2 to 3 minutes walk away from my door then when the congestion issue started suddenly my speed dropped to around 60meg ......coincidence

Well heres an update, finally got the parts to unlock my ECI modem, done that with a lil difficulty but i got it done.

Sky estimate my line can only handle 46.1/8 but my actual line speed it can handle is 66/21 thats from the stats of the eci modem.

That could be a little misleading, I think the line rate shown does not allow for overheads and assumes a zero noise margin, but I think it does confirm your line can handle more than Sky estimate.

Also the estimates are "safe". Should you get less than the estimate, it is a suitable reason to cancel if Sky are unable to provide the speed within the first month or so.

Depends if that's the actual or attainable.

Re: Is Sky reducing my Sky Fibre Download speed?

OK a quick update as lots of things have happened since the problem occurred.

Having spoken to Sky 2nd line support numerous times, at first they tried to fob me off saying there wasn't anything more they could do and it must be to do with my laptop or what the line can support.

I persisted with my complaint that they were either reducing my line due due to congestion or there was a fault and if this continued I would have no reason but to switch suppliers.

Anyway, after a couple of days or so they came back saying there was a fault on the line and it had been corrected by BT but I wasn't seeing an improvement on my download speed. After another long call with their 2nd line support where they insisted on doing their rounds of checks! I put in another complaint and this time directed at them that they were reducing my speed due to congestion which they denied . A day later low and behold, not only was my speed up (significantly) but my ping dropped from 22-50ms to 5ms.

Funnily enough my line was also upgrade to A+ according to Speedtest.net. I don't what they or BT did but it seem to work!
