      Exchange Information

      Hi,

Is there any Fibre broadband customers on this forum that are connected to exchange: if so how are they finding the speeds during the evenings any drops?

Are you experiencing any drops in your connection speed?

Are you able to show that they are occuring within specific time frames?

      Re: Exchange Information

      Hi,

I have done several tests with the same and different servers on Speedtest.net and I am getting results in the range from 75Mb to 45Mb and as lowest as 30Mb. The tests are done hard wired to the Sky router. I was just wondering if anyone on here had these issues on the same exchange? Which servers are best to use on Speedtest.net ?

I have raised this with someone at Sky. They should be able to check with the Network Engineers tomorrow when they see the post.

      Re: Exchange Information

It could be the early signs of congestion on the backhaul from the exchange although it's not that bad compared to some exchanges that suffered. When my exchange was suffering peak time congestion the download speeds dropped as low as 150Kbps with pings around 1500ms, basically it was unusable between 6pm and midnight on weekdays and between 3pm and 1am at weekends.

      Re: Exchange Information

      Hello snowy845,

Following some feedback, could I ask you to run some checks on the ping times please?

If you can do this at different times of the day and post the collective results, it would be appreciated.

The SR101 does have an option to ping a website. Alternatively drop to the command line (i.e. run CMD) and type 'ping BBC - Homepage'. I can feed the results back to the person who is looking into this. ust in case, I will state an obvious thing, but please ensure that no other activity is happening at the same time. If you have been running some torrents then it is a good idea to stop them at least 10-15 minutes before doing this test.

Sadly at this stage it does not look like your exchange has an issue with congestion but any evidence to show otherwise would be useful.

      Hi,

Thanks for looking into this matter. I will complete some ping and speedtests. Is there any particular servers that are best to use on Speedtest.net?

      Thanks again,

      Re: Exchange Information

If you could ping the BBC website, this would be more useful. It is simple and effective.

Thank you for this. There is not indication as to when those test were completed though. Do you have this information available?
