      Re: Sky Fibre install diary

Just a side note, I got connected this morning. The engineers were contractors, not OR themselves. Chaps gave me a call 30mins before they arrived, got me connected in 60mins after the call (incl. time at the cab and fitting a new socket etc.)
From reading around before the installation it sounded like getting a contractor instead of OR was a death omen. But touch wood, these guys did a really quick and efficient job that'll last a while The majority of posts to seem to be about Kelly engineers which these guys were thankfully not from.

The other major sub-contractor to Openreach is M.J. Quinn Integrated Services Ltd. I've noticed one or two of their vans around my area recently.

      Not sure
Could be wrong but I think these guys were based north Oxford so I doubt they'd stretch over to you.

Yes really do know that feeling, I currently use a Edge Router Lite (ERL) which runs EdgeOS which is based around Debian and forked from Vyatta.

The other platform I like quite a lot is RouterOS and the routerboards (Despite it's numerous quirky bugs and the often questionable build quality of the routerboard hardware they're cheap and VERY flexible)

These devices make DD-WRT.etc look fairly basic in terms of features so you can imagine how I feel about most ISP supplied routers.

@dragon2611. Yes I know what you feel at this point.
BTW today my engineer from Openreach bring another one with him. And after discussion they install all as per my request. Even better. They move master socket to living room from kitchen. Is a plus. But I still think that yesterday's job was below every standard. Even if this engineer was new in company with lack of necessary knowledge I think he should call for more experienced one yesterday. Now all is finished and I enjoying my new connection.

      Re: Sky Fibre install diary

No engineer came but my ADSL went down. Connected up the SR102 and I'm getting 80/20 synch speeds. Hmm...

Never mind. I'm just a little out of pocket for a VDSL faceplate.

You are lucky you could fit one. There are many who have the older socket or are in new builds without a master socket who will not be able to do so. Then the problems will begin.
