      Re: Nearly unusable evening speeds

No worries. If 200+ people have contacted Sky then it sounds quite serious and they will be working to identify the cause and then fix it asap.

Someone is checking with the Network team.

I do not know if I will be able to post the full response, but I will advise what I can.

      Re: Nearly unusable evening speeds

Hot of the press, so to speak...

The Network Team are aware of the problem are are working to get it resolved. An estimate will be provided for the resolution as soon as they can, but this will be an estimate, not a guarantee.

The following is purely my commentary, and not a part of the response:

At this stage I do not know what the specific cause is, but judging from the response it looks like a contractor or BTO Engineer will be required to fix it. Do remember that only BTO Employees are allowed to work in the exchanges unsupervised. All other persons have to have a BTO employee on site to supervise them. This can cause some delays, but it would be dealt as very high priority.

If any kit needs to be brought in to replace something that has gone wrong, this may take some extra time too as the courier will need to arrange a time slot, unless the contractor brings it with them.

      Re: Nearly unusable evening speeds

I'm still getting the same, around 21:00 (just when the fibre team closes) ping times drop to around 3000ms. Its a real problem for me as I need to do remote work in the evenings and can barely get onto the google front page let alone log into a server.

Tried calling at 20:50 last night but couldn't get through so I'm going to try again during the day to find out how long its going to take. May need to cancel if its going to be a long term fix.

Further info now available. I hope Scubbie won't mind me updating the thread with it (it's now also been raised in the Sky Help Forum):

Sky are aware of the problem and apparently the work is scheduled in (completion currently expected early next week, but that may be subject to change).

      Re: Nearly unusable evening speeds

Quick update, got a call on Friday that they are sending an engineer round tomorrow afternoon. Seems completely pointless when the problem is obviously not at the house but the exchange and the fact that it works fine up until 21:00. I'll update tomorrow.

      Re: Nearly unusable evening speeds

Very strange. It is an issue either at the exchange or between the exchange and Sky. The specific information we don't have available.

I have heard that someone in a call centre promised it would have been fixed by now, but the information speedyrite provided was a lot more accurate.

I called Sky again they assured me the problem with the exchange was upgraded/fixed on Saturday 17/08/2013, i told them it hadn't because i was still having terrible evening speeds, they mention they were again going to forward this to the engineers..

They mention there are several people on the same line with a similar issue? The lady also told me that she has been told this can take up to 4 weeks

Unfortunately i have now cancelled Sky BB as i work remotely from home in the evenings and no internet means no work etc - i hope they sort it out for the rest of you - PS if anyone needs spare Broadband equipment (Free) let me know as i will no longer be needing mine.

      Regards
      Jamie

      Re: Nearly unusable evening speeds

The source speedyrite and I have hasn't confirmed that the issue has been resolved. They are talking directly with the network team.

I will chase this, but I can only repeat what we were advised last week in that it should be fixed 'early in the week'.
