      Thanks steelysteph, but if Sky are insisting that we use there routers and fail to include a suitable means for us to use a better option then I can only see trouble ahead.

      BTO Modems appear to be selling on eBay for between 12 and 25 (plus postage) at the moment.

      SR102 = SR101 + VDSL + Black + Updated firmware.

      That's it.

      I can however say it handled a fibre upgrade/"self-install" yesterday without missing a beat.

      I can see the advantage of supplying a single box that can be self-installed (and the disadvantages), but really, could they at least have soldered on gigabit ports?

      BT and Virgin are probably having a good chuckle!

      Ever since the new EPG came in, Sky's product developments have lost their way. This new router is poor, the new wifi enabled sky box doesn't really rock the world. Thank god they released the fantastic facebook app 'sky share', this has saved me using the sky remote app to remote record :s

      Same here. The specs are disappointing, but I have found it to be robust over the last few months I've been trialling it. Haven't had to reboot it once. When checking the router GUI, it does appear to have rebooted itself on a few occasions (like every few weeks) but it's never when I've been using it, so I'm not sure if it's being sent updates or crashing or what have you. Wifi performance is okay and sync speed on fibre has been consistent (but not as good as the Openreach modem, it must be said)

      Interesting...

      Do you know what make cabinet you are on? Is this experience the same with others on the same kit or the other kit?

      Re: New Sky Hub in September

      No idea, I don't know anyone else around here who's trialling the new Hub. I can say that my Openreach modem is a Huawei, and when the engineer was installing it, his tester was syncing about 5 meg slower.

      It's not a big difference really, mainly the upload speed which dropped by about 1 meg. Download dropped by about half a meg.

      I can't recall the specific thread, but there is one on this forum with a few different pics of fibre cabinets.

      This thread may be useful: http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-b...net-modem.html
