New Member with a couple of questions.

Hi everyone. What a great site, very good technical members, and reading the posts - very informative.I have standard Sky Broadband Unlimited, a pathetic 6-7 meg (quoted in tests) download, and desparate to get Fibre.I am awaiting a reply from BTO as to when and if I will be getting fibre. My exchange is 1.1 miles away and accepting orders, there is a new fibre cabinet (been there around 6 months or more) about 200m from the house. What I would like to know is if I do get Sky Fibre Unlimited, would I also be able to get SFU PRO, if requested, or does itdepend on good lines etc. Also all the tests on my standard BB, as I said, are 6-7 meg, but when I use a download manager (IDM) stuff comes down ataround 9 meg, just wondering. Thanks again for a great site.John.

Re: New Member with a couple of questions.

If, when you get the details, your line can support over 40Mbps, then you can get SFUP. It's then up to you to decide whether or not the extra 10 is worth it. Obviously, if your estimates are in the order of 70Mbps, then it probably is!

Just to caveat, I have read the odd post where people have been told that they can't order SFUP. Not sure if this was an issue with the ordering systems or capacity issues.

If you are wanting Sky Pro, the 80/20 package, then you would be far better off going with BT. Cheaper monthly cost, better modem and free premier football.

Here's hoping sky will offer decent retention offers when my contract is up!

sky fibre has been very reliable for me, should i expect the same if i decide to go to another provider such as bt or plusnet?

This is all academic as the OP's landline is directly connected to to exchange so for the time being at least he is stuck with ADSL.

Re: New Member with a couple of questions.

Thanks Guys for all your replys, but it seems I had got it wrong - (See my other thread - "Looks like I will never get Fibre). I thought the cabinet around the corner would serve my street
but it turns out we don't have a cabinet on our street because BT in their wisdom put our part of the estate on E.O lines, so NO cabinet. If anyone sees any LATEST progress on this from
BTO, I would be grateful if you could post it. I wonder if you can imagine, just one street away they have Fibre, but I can't !!
