Will fibre speeds improve over time or is that it?

My standard BB speed has been pegged at 5-6mb down <1mb up for some time now due I am guessing to my proximity to the exchange. My estimated fibre speeds are 22 up and 5.6mb down, a big improvement but obviously not as lightning fast as some are getting.

Anybody know if these speeds are likely to remain constant as standard BB has or are we likely to see improvements as time goes on?

BTO are working on developing a new system to transmit the VDSL signal known as vectoring. This is being trialled in some areas now.

Hopefully it will improve things but we do not have the information yet other than the fact that there should be less interference from the other connections in the cabinet.

It is hoped that the maximum speeds will also rise from 80mb to 220mb, but time will tell.

I live in Barnet and really interest to see which part will have the trial. Currently only can getting 18/5 despite estimated speed 27/6 when I joined.

There are two Fiber cabinets just 5 mins walk away from my home but I connect to the cabinet which is 10mins away.

I can only suggest that you keep an eye on the local press and local forums which might discuss the issue.

Also look at the Openreach site.

Will Sky participate and more importantly will your connection automatically be included? Sadly at this stage the answer is not known.
