My last question though before I start filling the house with Pringle cans If a homeplug with passthough is plugged directly in to the mains, and a surge protected adapter is run from that, does it have the same detrimental effect as the opposite way around ?

No as long as the Homeplug is plugged directly into the socket, plugging a surge protection adapter into that will have no effect.

Ahh fantastic, problem solved then. So I just need to grab a twin pack with passthrough and I should be in a much better position. I don't suppose anyone here can recommend a good pair for the job ? And thanks again for the quick replies guys.

The Netgear XAV2001 Powerline Ethernet Adapters work for me with the bonus of an AV Adapter XAV1004 for the TV and Sky Box in the same series.

P.S I also have random WIFI drop outs at the moment. When it goes it goes on multiple devices, e.g Laptop and Phones loose the wifi. Although according to issider the signal and quality is excellent.
