Router - Can I get it delivered to an alternative address?

      Hi,

I'm thinking of getting Sky Fibre broadband and I'm curious to know if they would deliver the router to an alternative address, i.e. my work address, instead of my home.

Has anyone had their router delivered to an alternative address?

      Thanks.

I contacted Sky and they will only send to the registered address on the account, which is a bit restricted in this day and age when people work full time and are not in to receive it.

      Oh well.

Currently Sky have been using Royal Mail to deliver the routers. They have been using the 'Tracked' service. This means that you get a text message from RM on the day of delivery and when it is delivered. This can be a garden shed, porch, outhouse, friendly neighbour or some other suitable place nearby.

If you are out and you have a safe place for the postie to leave the router, you can leave a note sticking out of the letter box for them to use.

Otherwise a 'red card' will be left for you to collect it from the delivery office at a later time.

Someone did suggest that Sky may be changing to another delivery firm soon.

Let's hope they don't. Whilst RM can come in for some stick I have found them quite conscientious and their depots are normally not a million miles away. With other couriers I've either had to make a 20 mile round trip or get them to explain why they would throw a breakable item over my garden wall ...

Much safer to collect it from RM depot unless someone there steals it.....like they did with first one Sky sent me. Can't wait for RM to be privatised they are a nightmare

Sky did change their courier of choice for router delivery a few years ago from Parcel Force (PF) to Royal Mail (RM). I'm not sure why but assume it was a cost saving exercise. How PF can compete with RM is nonsensical seeing as the two firms are so closely related, indeed it was (and may still be) possible to track parcels on each others website.

As long as they go back to 2 collections a day including a Saturday collection it would be an improvement. There's nothing worse than missing the collection on Friday afternoon knowing that the letter won't get into the system until Monday evening.

Round my way, years back, there were 3 collections a day during the week and one on Saturday, now there's a collection at 3pm (how useful is that when you are out all day) during the week and nothing on Saturday.

Re: Router - Can I get it delivered to an alternative address?

Most boxes are emptied 3 or 4 times a day during the week.

I hadn't realised that the Saturday collections had stopped. Are you sure of this? Normally the boxes are emptied between 11am-1pm on a Saturday, with a handful after this time. Don't forget that the counters are open on a Saturday too. These will need collecting from. Of course the small isolated boxes can get ignored if a survey shows that there is nothing there on a Saturday. Also many remote boxes are emptied by the delivery staff during their rounds. Where this is the case, they may have dropped this in order to save a few more pennies.

Due to their "Seniority" system, did you know that it was always the same two or three individuals who would do the Sunday & Bank Holiday Collections, grabbing the overtime at double rate?

The router delivery address can be manually changed when placing the order.
The advisor just needs to change the fulfilment address.

Have you had an item delivered to an alternative address yourself?
