      Moved Router

      Hi,

I did have the hub next to the modem right next to where I game but due to static from the router to my PX5's I had to move the hub, it is now sitting across the other side of the room to the modem and since then I have had a higher ping and reduced speeds.

      Re: Moved Router

What type of cable are you using? Have you tried a different cable to rule any issues with that?

Unless your room is the size of a warehouse, you should not see noticeable drops in ping/speed when using a decent Cat5e cable

I think you mean you should not see noticible drops etc.

      Re: Moved Router

The speed and ping did return to normal the next day. The problem I have now is my upload has dropped from 6.2Mbps to 4.5Mbps.

      Re: Moved Router

Rebooted modem and it all went back to normal, that is until someone had fiber installed around the corner and my line went down. Ping now 35 and both DL and UL have dropped.

Is there a reason for my line to go down when someone else has fiber installed on the cab. ?

      Re: Moved Router

As the cabinet fills up there is an increased risk of cross-talk between the lines. Sadly this is to be expected at the moment. Hopefully when 'Vectoring' is launched, this will no longer be a problem.

As for the loss of your connection, I would question this. Also it might be useful to know your actual connection speed, what it was previously and what Sky predicted it to be.

      Re: Moved Router

The sync speed at the moment is:

      Down - 32024
      Up - 6048

      Current speed test:

Previous sync speed was around 34000 down/6700 up and prevoius speed test gave me:

When the line went down it was for a good 10 mins and the dsl light would flash a few times, stop and then flash again (this repeated for the 10 mins) and was at the time a friend was being connected. They are actually having problems now with their connection going on and off.

Sky estimated 35 down and still do, thier website is currently showing me as 32 down/6 up. The BT site gives me an estimate of 38 down/6.6 up

      Re: Moved Router

Ok, since you are below the estimated speed from both BT and Sky, I would give Sky a friendly call and ask them to investigate things.

Hopefully you should be quickly passed over to the Fibre team.

Being below their estimate you have cause to complain and it may indicate a line issue which needs to be looked into.
