Re: Sky Fibre Install and Extension Questions.

BT have been known to make mistakes. Following a home move where the telephone number was transferred to the new address. The broadband was also inadvertently transferred. Six months later a letter from BT informed their customer that they had also been supplying broadband but not billing for it. Their confirmation that there wouldn't be any retrospective charges provided the impetus to transfer broadband and calls to Sky (who were already supplying TV) followed by line rental once the contract with BT had expired.

I don't know if it was a case of sour grapes but as soon as Sky broadband went live BT cut the line off for about half an hour causing minimal impact on the telephone service but three weeks without broadband as Sky had to cancel and then re-order the broadband ten days later when the line was clear.

      Good news.....Sky Talk activated yesterday.
Bad news.......internet is now more off than on and speed is abysmal. I will have to wait for retraining.
More bad news is that I am not able to order fibre as there has been a change to my line within the last 30 day......no kidding!
I'm going to phone them tonight to see what's going on.

I'm in a similar situation - can't order fibre online as I've 'changed' my package in the last 30 days. Anyone know whether the 30 days is taken from the date the order was placed or the changes were activated?

Did you get the 50 waived?

Re: Sky Fibre Install and Extension Questions.

I'm trying to be tight and order it online as TopCashback gives 60 cash back which will offset the installation fee. However, not sure if I can cope with 2.4Mbps for much longer, so might have to make that call.

The remaining two cores in the living room would run from the VDSL faceplate which replaces the front of the NTE5 master socket back to an extension socket in the hall. This in turn would be daisy chained to the extension in the bedroom using existing wiring. Most modern telephones (with an electronic ringer) only require a two wire connection connected to pins 3 & 5 in the extension socket although some older phones especially those with an electro-mechanical bell would not ring in this configuration. You could check this prior to doing any work by disconnecting all pins except 3 & 5 from one of your extension sockets and checking all your telephone instruments one by one using this socket to make sure they ring when calling home from your mobile. Only two cores are required for Sky+ HD box telephone connections.
2 & 5 is the line pair! 3 is the ring/bell wire, despite what a lot of Internet forums say a LOT of phones still require this to ring. DECT phones normally don't however.

if you haggle with customer services they will waiver the the 50, you have to pay for it first then 2 days later they credit you back
