      New Huawei Firmware

Saw a post on another forum listing a newer firmware for the HG612. Imporves sync speed on the unlocked modems

      Increased mine so I'm happy

      Further info:

Apologies if this has already been posted, I did a quick search and didn't notice anything

      Enjoy^^

      EDIT:

A few users have also noted that sticking in an ADSL nation high speed sheilded twisted cable like this, also improved the upload and download by a Mb or so. Cant hurt

      They also do 0.5 & 1.0m lengths

      Nice find there.

Just concerned about the picture of the cable though. Those look like RJ45 connectors to me.

      Re: New Huawei Firmware

I thought that.... However 3 other people on the other forums you have been posting on (dont know if we can mention other forums so wont) have all ordered the .5 length and seen a speed increase.

Could be due to reboot.... never know.....

      Speed:

I was sync'd at 35988i rebooted then got to 36352, i think installed the new firmware and got to 37356 ish.

      It's recommended to:

      - download file

      - unplug modem

      - hold reset button

-plug modem in while still holding reset

      - count to 5 then let go of reset

      - browse to 192.168.1.1 and 'choose file'

navigate to the downloaded updated firmware and voila.

No problem. I was just concerned about the picture. It may well be the wrong one.

I think it's RJ-11, the pin's look about right but the angle of the image makes it difficult to tell for sure.

ADSLNation have been around for a while if they say it's an RJ11 cable it probably Is

Suprised to see they've become part of Tandy, thought Tandy was long gone...

      Re: New Huawei Firmware

I have the cable from Tandy in 0.5m length & can confirm the connections are RJ11 to RJ11. Ordered the cable 1 week prior to my FTTC install & gave the cable to the Openreach engineer at point of install (asked him to use the Tandy cable in place of the standard 'flat' cable)....I was forecast to receive 66.7mb download speed, but get 74mb - 75mb...not sure if the extra speed is attributable to the cable. The Tandy cable is worth a go, as it is cheap to purchase & certainly looks high quality when you see it in the flesh.

I have an adsl nation 50cm cat 5e with rj11 ends
it gave more crc errors than the stock cable that came with my billion 7402x
and didnt increase the up or downstream sync

I suspect the cat 5e is Copper Coated Aluminum

I was surprised too. It seems Tandy have taken over all the retailing for AdslNation. Example - XTE-2005 Filtered Master Faceplate - ADSL Nation

Anyone else tried the new HG firmware?

Seems most major improvements are on lines over 500m long
