Line fault fixed - how long for DLM to recover?

      Hi,

I've just had a line fault fixed after a couple of weeks during which time the FTTC connection rate has dropped in stages from 40/10 to 10/6. The fault was corrected yesterday and the modem reconnected at 10/6. Over a day later a reboot of the modem has again resulted in 10/6.

Does anyone know how long it usually takes for DLM to realise the line is now fine and re-establish the 40/10? Also, will it increase the speed without the need to reboot the modem?

10 is so slow when you're used to 40!

I have read elsewhere that the Openreach engineer should have requested a DLM reset on fixing the fault, but it seems quite common for this to get forgotten about (maybe the fault was fixed by a voice engineer and they don't bother checking if they need to do this or something, who knows). Providing the DLM has not become "stuck" at the low level you were seeing before the fault, it should raise it back up. How long? Don't know - we do know it's quick to lower it but not so quick to raise it back again. Maybe 2 or 3 days? Keep monitoring and if you're not happy then refer to Sky Fibre team (sigh, not a short wait from what I've read).

From my experience it can be up to 5 or 6 weeks, it usually occurs in 3 or 4 steps.

Whatever you do don't reboot the modem because sometimes can be viewed as a fault and it won't make any difference to the sync speed anyway because it's set based on the IP profile rather than SNR.

i'm in kinda the same boat, connection dropt from 40mbs to 20 mbps, after a fault - it has taken 2 days for the 1st jump in speed to happened (back at 30mbps) - it doesn't take that long, but if it hasn't improved in a week i'd give sky a bell

One week on and I'm back to 32Mbps - let's hope the remaining 8 comes soon

I though DLM was permanent with fibre. There is no 10 day period????

Following my own limited experience on SFUP, the last 8mb might be down to your computer rather than the connection.

Are you able to do speedtest with another computer?

I would also suggest that you try different servers.

      Hi Scubbie,
It's what the router is reporting as well as speedtests and real world downloads on wired and wireless PCs. (I've not hacked the OR modem)
