      Definitely a sub-contractor.

I forgot to mention that he installed ECI Modem too.

I have also run the speed test in Safe Mode and got a similar result as before. At this stage I'm not sure about the cause, so I'm putting something together for my torrent PC at the moment.

I don't suppose you know anyone else locally who you could compare notes with (who are on the SKY fibre product?) Is the cabinet/exchange already congested?

Just a thought - presuming the engineer did all the necessary line checks to make sure there wasn't any pre-existing fault.
      Cheers

Although the change over was just over an hour, he didn't stay that long.

As for other local people, my cabinet has only recently gone live, so the issue won't be there. My exchange isn't on the list of exchanges with a backhaul problem and the speed tests have been consistent all day.

Did you not run a speed test while he was there to make sure everything was fully setup, this is what I did and also tested my phone to make sure no noise on the line before he went.

      Re: Goodbye ADSL

I ran the first tests whilst he was around. Unfortunately he told me that his kit for testing the speed isn't working. I have no means to prove otherwise.

At the moment I am in the process of getting the line upgraded properly to SFUP, so hopefully all this is temporary.

Both computers which I used to perform the tests are more than capable of handling 99mb/s or more over the Ethernet.

Rather than just 'stop' the torrents, I actually closed µTorrent when doing the tests on the torrent PC. I also unplugged the Ethernet cable from the torrent PC when testing using the Laptop.

To add to this, the torrent PC maxed out at 3100kbps just now on the test I setup.

      Just now I want to...

From what I understand there is not a noticeable difference from 40 to 80 only on torrents and ftp files but even then you need enough seeders to gain full speeds so you have to weigh up is it really worth the extra costs... I think the 10 upload is fine for youtube for me personally. have you gave sky a ring what have they said?

      Re: Goodbye ADSL

If you have some video files at home that can be streamed, could you give the Skifta app a try? I use VPlayer on my phone to play the various content, but Skifta will stream to a TV or HT if they are both connected to the same LAN.

If you have a tablet of smart phone, try streaming something to it using Skifta. Do it at home first, then try it via 3G or in a WiFi café. You'll soon see what I am looking to achieve.

My upload is working fine, which I am more pleased about. For myself, the increase from 10 to 20mb on the upload will be more beneficial.

Forgive my ignorance, Fibre isn't due here until the end of 2013 so I'm not well up.
I'm assuming the upload is fine but your not happy with the download, what figures can you reasonably expect ?
When it does arrive here I would be liking the reduction in pings.

      Re: Goodbye ADSL

The estimate for my line is up to 64.2mb with SFUP. For SFU I should be able yo get 40mb.

The connection stats give me this (40mb). Since it is double my ADSL stats, I would expect something in the region of 34mb in the test results. Sadly this isn't happening today.
