I have 3 laptops in the house all with g wireless cards. What I don't understand though is that I was getting faster speeds with sky conventional broadband. Have I just wasted my money?
Try upgrading the wireless card in one of the laptops?

You buy USB ones or ones that go in the cardbus slot (if your machine has one).

It's possible to change the internal wireless card on some laptops but that varies in difficulty depending on where the card is located and if the laptop manufacturer has locked the Bios to prevent it from accepting alternate wireless cards. (Someone told me they to it as it makes FCC certification easier)

If you are getting 40 Mbps with an ethernet connection, you have not wasted your money. What you will have to do to get faster wireless speeds is spend some more to upgrade your adapters as Dragon suggests. Also have you tried changing the channel on the router? Check the channel was your previous router using, try that for a start.
