I don't think there is any way to definitely force a change of IP. Even on ADSL, on some exchanges this is next to impossible. The only way you might be able to do this is to sign up for a VPN service like Hotspot Shield. This is likely to give you a new address each time you sign on.

You will need to disconnect the BTO Modem for just over an hour. This should do it.

However you also need to be warned: repeatedly disconnecting it will cause your connection speed to drop. It will take the DLM software around 10 days to get your speed back to normal.

Both ADSL and Fibre appear to be like this. The response I gave was for Sky Fibre. With ADSL it is as simple as unplugging the ADSL lead for about an hour.

Re: sr101 How to change sticky IP

Under a dd-wrt router you can release an ip address and then renew after a few minutes and it tends to grab a new ip. I would imagine changing the mac address on the router would request an new ip as well. No need to disconnect the BT modem as that will just cause DLM problems.

How reliable is the above, no idea. Someone else running dd-wrt could try it (its in the status - wan section)

Re: sr101 How to change sticky IP

Check the Sky router log for the "lease renewed" entry to see what the lease renewal period is - it's most likely 3600 (seconds = 1 hour) but I have also seen 600 (seconds = 10 minutes) - and then turn off the Sky router for that period of time (plus a couple of minutes for good measure). When you turn the Sky router on again, there's a good chance you will get a different IP address. It should not be necessary to turn off the Openreach modem to accomplish all this.

Re: sr101 How to change sticky IP

On sky adsl it was as simple and disconnect/reconnect on the dsl status screen.
You must have been lucky, or on a very quiet ADSL pool. Many have the same difficulty you are experiencing and many who want to keep the same IP find it changes too often. Sod's Law I think it is called.
