Your best solution would really be Homeplugs which carry the ethernet over the mains.

I won't recommend a particular set but go to your favourite online retailer ( eg ebuyer) & enter homeplugs in the search.

You'll need at least the 200mbps version.

Also the dongle is not a WiFi Dongle. If you want to get a WiFi N USB Dongle, try to get one which supports 300mbps. Although the Sky Hub works at 144mbps, the dongles which work at 150mbps will only connect at up to 72mbps.

The alternative would be to fit a WiFi card inside the PC.

Might be worth trying the Virgin Media branded WNDA-3200 if you need a USB wireless adaptor.

Loads of them on that well known auction site for less than a tenner.

It's an Atheros AR9280 Wi-fi Chip which is 2x2:2 A/B/G/N so will support both 2.4 and 5ghz networks at upto 300Mbit/s

Actually just bought one myself to have a play with, as I'm interested on how well they perform, that and USB devices can often be passed through to Virtual machines where as the inbuilt adaptor in ones laptop usually can't.

That sounds like a good bargain.

The WNDA3100v2 did originally sell for around 30 but is now available for around 20 in some places.

I don't know the chipset off-hand, but the specs are otherwise the same (300mb/s on either the 2.4GHz of 5GHz channels).

      Re: sky fibre payg dongle?

      The WNDA3100 v1 is supposedly an AR9170 combined with a AR9104

      The WNDA3100 v2 is supposedly a BCM4323

      According to wikidevi at least
